Prevalence and genetic diversity of Pentatrichomonas hominis in pig populations in Guangdong and Anhui Provinces, China.

Pentatrichomonas hominis is a protozoan parasite that infects the gastrointestinal tract of humans and mammals, causing abdominal pain and diarrhea. However, its presence in pigs and its potential as a pathogen causing diarrhea in piglets have not been well studied. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of P. hominis in pigs and its potential for zoonotic transmission. A total of 406 pig fecal samples were collected from four pig farms located in Guangdong and Anhui Provinces. Fecal DNA extraction was carried out using a commercially available kit. A nested PCR methodology was employe…

Assessing the impact of climatic conditions and feeding systems on the quality of raw bovine milk in Spain.

The dairy industry faces significant challenges from climate change, requiring a deeper understanding of how climatic factors influence raw milk composition and quality. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of climatic variables, such as temperature, solar radiation, and carbon dioxide levels, on raw milk parameters, including somatic cell count, protein percentage, fat, and total bacterial count. Selectivity ratio and Spearman rank correlation analyses identified key associations. This study analyzed data from 53 farms in northern Spain (2014 to 2019), using 2 feeding systems: Tot…

Analysis of psychological and social factors affecting climate change adaptation and mitigation behaviors among Iranian rice farmers.

Rice is a vital staple crop, feeding billions globally. However, conventional rice farming practices, especially traditional irrigation techniques, are significant contributors to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Flooded irrigation, in particular, creates anaerobic conditions that facilitate methane production-a GHG significantly more potent in terms of global warming potential compared to carbon dioxide. As a result, rice cultivation is a key driver of climate change (CC). Addressing these environmental challenges while maintaining sustainable productivity requires the adoption of climate-smar

Invited review: The One Health challenges and opportunities of the H5N1 outbreak in dairy cattle in the United States.

The outbreak of H5N1 in dairy cattle in the United States revealed challenges in identification and management of a novel disease. The virus showed an exceptional ability to spread between farms and among cows within a farm. The impact of the virus on dairy cattle varied from nonclinical to severe clinical signs and death. Many dairy producers did not report clinical signs in their cows or test for the virus. Cats and peridomestic birds on many affected dairies died from viral exposure. Dairy workers showed signs of conjunctivitis, which was confirmed to be due to H5N1. With the disease affect…

Veterinary Autogenous Vaccines for Poultry in Europe-Many Ways to Crack an Egg.

In the past decade, European animal farming has increasingly used autogenous vaccines for the prevention of nonnotifiable diseases. In Europe, these vaccines are exclusively inactivated bacterial and viral vaccines, with a set of specific regulations that differentiate them from conventional vaccines. The highest number of applications most likely occurs in poultry, as these animal species are farmed in the highest numbers compared with other types of food-producing animals. In 2019, autogenous vaccines came within the scope of harmonized European regulation for the first time, although many i
