Lower PrEP Retention among Young and Black Clients Accessing PrEP at a Cluster of Safety Net Clinics for Gay and Bisexual Men.

Young men of color who have sex with men are vulnerable to HIV and experience poor PrEP uptake and retention. We conducted a secondary data analysis and calculated adjusted Prevalence Odds Ratios (aPORs) for PrEP retention along with 95% CIs at 90, 180, and 360 days at an organization running safety net clinics in Texas for gay and bisexual men. We found statistically significant association with age, race, in-clinic versus telehealth appointments, and having healthcare insurance. White clients had an aPOR of 1.29 [1.00, 1.67] as compared to Black clients at 90 days. Age group of 18-24 had a l

Experiences with health care services and HIV testing after sexual assault in cisgender gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men and transgender people.

OBJECTIVES: This qualitative sub-study aimed to explore how cisgender gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (cis-GBMSM) and transgender people who reported non-consensual sex (NCS) accessed health care services, what barriers they faced, and how this experience influenced subsequent HIV testing. METHODS: SELPHI is an online randomized controlled trial evaluating both acceptability and efficiency of HIV-self testing among cis-GBMSM and transgender people. Semi-structured interviews were conducted, audio-recorded, transcribed, and analysed through a framework analysis, as a qualita

Changes in incidence of hepatitis C virus reinfection and access to direct-acting antiviral therapies in people with HIV from six countries, 2010-19: an analysis of data from a consortium of prospective cohort studies.

BACKGROUND: Reinfection after successful treatment with direct-acting antivirals is hypothesised to undermine efforts to eliminate hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection among people with HIV. We aimed to assess changes in incidence of HCV reinfection among people with HIV following the introduction of direct-acting antivirals, and the proportion of all incident cases attributable to reinfection. METHODS: We pooled individual-level data on HCV reinfection in people with HIV after spontaneous or treatment-induced clearance of HCV from six cohorts contributing data to the International Collaboration

Media Literacy and Its Potential Influence on Mpox-Related Perceptions and Prevention Intentions in China During the 2022 Multi-Country Outbreak of Mpox.

Media literacy plays an increasingly important role in health communication during public health emergencies. The present study aimed to investigate the level of media literacy and its association with disease perceptions and behavioral intentions of receiving vaccination services among young men who have sex with men (YMSM) in China during the 2022 multi-country mpox outbreak. The data were from a large-scale cross-sectional survey conducted among 2,493 YMSM aged 18-29 years in six provincial regions in China in September 2022. A total of 2,079 YMSM who had obtained mpox information from soci

Mpox Vaccine Communication Among Sexually Active Men Who Have Sex With Men.

We assessed mpox vaccine communication and sexual behavior among US men who have sex with men during the 2022 mpox outbreak. Less than 40% of respondents asked a new male sex partner about their mpox vaccination status. Mpox vaccine communication was positively associated with condomless anal sex and group sex. Mpox vaccine communication is low but may inform mpox risk perception and sexual behaviors among men who have sex with men.

First report of Shigella sonnei carrying a blaCTX-M-15 sexually transmitted among men who have sex with men.

Epidemiology of shigellosis has drastically changed in recent years due to globalization and sexual risk behaviors. Here, through whole-genome sequencing, we characterized two ESBL-producing Shigella sonnei strains (ShSoBUH1 and ShSoBUH2) carrying a blaCTX-M-15 among men who have sex with men (MSM), who had not recently traveled and presented sexual risk behaviors. Both strains harbored IncB/O/K/Z and IncFII plasmids, which carry aadA1, aadA5, sul1, sul2, dfrA1, dfrA17, mph(A), erm(B), tet(B), qacE and blaCTX-M-15 genes conferring resistance to 2nd and 3rd generation cephalosporins, cotrimoxaz

[Men who have sex with men negotiating pleasure and prevention through HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis].

Prophylaxis based on antiretrovirals, such as pre-exposure prophylaxis to HIV (PrEP), has the potential to protect the populations most vulnerable to infection, which renews optimism for controlling the HIV epidemic. Against this backdrop, the aim of this article is to analyze the perceptions, negotiations and tensions surrounding the use of PrEP by men who have sex with men (MSM). This is a qualitative cross-section of a multicenter study, analyzing semi-structured interviews with 18 users of specialized HIV/AIDS healthcare facilities in the city of São Paulo/SP. The findings show that negoti

Pharmacology of boosted and unboosted integrase strand transfer inhibitors for two-dose event-driven HIV prevention regimens among men.

BACKGROUND: Event-driven HIV prevention strategies are a priority for users who do not require daily pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). Regimens containing integrase strand transfer inhibitors (INSTIs) are under evaluation as alternatives to daily PrEP. To better understand INSTI distribution and inform dosing selection we compared the pharmacology of two-dose boosted elvitegravir and unboosted bictegravir regimens in MSM. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Blood, rectal and penile secretions and rectal biopsies were collected from 63 HIV-negative MSM aged 18-49 years. Specimens were collected up to 96 h a

Measuring the prevalence of autistic traits in a cohort of adults living with HIV or taking HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis and mapping safer-sex barriers and facilitators: a study protocol.

INTRODUCTION: Autistic individuals identify with a wider range of sexual orientations than non-autistic individuals, including higher rates of bisexual orientation in autistic men. Gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men are at greater risk for HIV. Prevalence data of autistic traits in people living with HIV or using Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV are lacking so far. Such data, combined with insights in barriers and facilitators for safer sex in autistic people living with HIV or using PrEP, are a first step to improve health support for autistic people in HIV clinics. High Prevalence of Rectal Chlamydia and Gonorrhea Among Men Who Have Sex With Men Who Do Not Engage in Receptive Anal Sex.

BACKGROUND: In the United States, annual screening for rectal gonorrhea and chlamydia is only recommended for men who report receptive anal sex (RAS), but other behaviors (e.g., rimming) may lead to rectal Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae acquisition. METHODS: We enrolled individuals assigned male sex at birth who reported sex with men and denied RAS in the past 2 years or reported RAS 1 to 2 years ago but were tested and treated since last RAS. Participants enrolled in-person at the Sexual Health Clinic in Seattle, Washington (December 2019-July 2022), or online (July 2021-Mar

Association between relationship characteristics and willingness to use PrEP among same-sex male couples: a cross-sectional actor-partner analysis in Guangzhou, China.

The association between relationship characteristics and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) acceptability among same-sex male couples has been limitedly examined. Dyadic survey data of 139 concordant HIV-negative same-sex male couples in Guangzhou, China were collected. The willingness to use PrEP was measured assuming that the participant's partner was HIV-positive. The actor-partner interdependence model was used to examine how one's relationship characteristics affected the PrEP willingness of the subject and his partner. Most participants (79.5%) were willing to use PrEP. The two individuals

Awareness and acceptability of HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) among students at two historically Black universities (HBCU): a cross-sectional survey.

BACKGROUND: Despite young African American adults (ages 18-24) being among the highest risk groups for HIV infection, little is known about their awareness of HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) - a once daily pill shown to be > 90% effective in preventing HIV. To explore awareness and acceptability of PrEP among college students in this demographic, we conducted a survey of attendees at two large historically Black universities (HBCU) in North Carolina. METHODS: We administered a 14-item questionnaire to students at two HBCUs in North Carolina between February and April 2018. Questions were
