Candida auris Pan-Drug-Resistant to Four Classes of Antifungal Agents.

Candida auris is an urgent antimicrobial resistance threat due to its global emergence, high mortality, and persistent transmissions. Nearly half of C. auris clinical and surveillance cases in the United States are from the New York and New Jersey Metropolitan area. We performed genome, and drug-resistance analysis of C. auris isolates from a patient who underwent multi-visceral transplantation. Whole-genome comparisons of 19 isolates, collected over 72 days, revealed closed similarity (Average Nucleotide Identity > 0.9996; Aligned Percentage > 0.9764) and a distinct subcluster of NY C. auris

Biofilm Formation and Associated Gene Expression in Multidrug-Resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae Isolated from Clinical Specimens.

Biofilms reduce the bacterial growth rate, inhibit antibiotic penetration, lead to the development of persister cells and facilitate genetic exchange. The biofilm-associated Klebsiella pneumoniae infections have not been well studied, and their implications in overcoming the effects of antimicrobial therapy are yet to be fully understood. Hence this study evaluated the antibiotic resistance pattern, antibiotic resistance determinants of extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) family. Biofilm-forming ability of seventy multidrug-resistant clinical isolates of K. pneumoniae and the biofilm-assoc

High-Level Resistance to Aminoglycosides Among Multidrug Resistant Non-faecalis and Non-faecium Enterococci.

BACKGROUND: Enterococci are considered as important causative pathogens of a variety of community and hospital-acquired infections. Due to the development of multidrug resistant (MDR) enterococci and the emergence of strains possessing high-level resistance to antimicrobial agents, treatment of their infections has been more complicated. In addition to more prevalent species of the Enterococcus genus, non-faecalis/non-faecium species are also responsible for severe healthcare-associated infections. Therefore, this study was designed to investigate high-level gentamicin resistance among the cli

Antimicrobial resistance in wildlife and in the built environment in a wildlife rehabilitation center.

Injured and orphaned wildlife are often brought to Wildlife Rehabilitation Centers (WRC) to be cared for by professionals to ultimately be released back to their natural habitats. In these centers, animals may spend months and frequently receive prolonged antibiotic therapy. Therefore, WRC may play a role in the emergence and dissemination of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). The goal of this study was to investigate the presence and antibiotic resistance profiles of Gram-negative bacteria with reduced susceptibility to cephalosporins in both the wildlife admitted to a WRC and in the WRC built e
