A chocolate candy worker was diagnosed as having occupational asthma and rhinoconjunctivitis on the basis of clinical record and methacholine challenge. Positive conjunctival and bronchial challenge tests with lactalbumin showed that this protein was the pathogenetic agent. Type I hypersensitivity mechanism is demonstrated by means of skin prick test and RAST.

A 40-year-old woman who worked on a farm and was exposed to moldy hay presented with acute respiratory failure requiring mechanical ventilation and homogeneous radiologic consolidation. Treatment with steroids produced rapid improvement. These features of presentation of hypersensitivity pneumonitis with acute respiratory failure and homogeneous consolidation are rarely encountered.

We encountered two cases of disseminated histoplasmosis with cutaneous involvement. The clinical and histopathologic findings were those of panniculitis. Primary pulmonary histoplasmosis typically induces a hypersensitivity panniculitis remote from the site of infection. In our cases of disseminated disease, however, the organisms were present in the skin and subcutaneous fat.

Adult athymic nude mice were protected against the lethality of intracerebral infection with LCM virus. Although the multiplication of LCM virus in the brain was almost equal between nu/nu and nu/+ mice, the delayed hypersensitivity reaction was not evoked in nu/nu mice as evidenced by foot pad reaction.

Intraperitoneal and subcutaneous lesions were produced in 17 out of 22 mice, sensitized by repeated subcutaneous injections of P. jeanselmei in FREUND'S complete adjuvant. The lesions were essentially self-limiting as were those described by us earlier in cortisone-treated mice. Precipitating antibodies and cutaneous hypersensitivity could not be demonstrated.

BACKGROUND: Food protein-induced enterocolitis syndrome (FPIES) is a non-IgE-mediated food allergy predominantly diagnosed in infancy and ea … r) is a well-established approach to induce tolerance. Although FPIES represents a non-IgE-mediated hypersensitivity, current evidence supporting such stepwise reintroduction strategies in this context remains limited. Prolonged and unnecessary elimination of allergen foods can have significant repercussions on the child's nutritional status and the family's psych …

The primary features of the alpha-gal syndrome (AGS) are (i) The IgE ab that are causally related to anaphylaxis with infusions of Cetuximab are specific for galactose alpha-1,3-galactose. (ii) In the USA, this IgE ab is induced by bites of the tick Amblyomma americanum. (iii) The anaphylactic reactions to food derived from non-primate mammals are delayed in onset by three to five hours. A further important fact is that all humans make a "natural" response to alpha-gal which includes IgM, IgG, and IgA, but not IgE. The clinical features of AGS are recognized in many parts of the world, but dif

Wheat and buckwheat allergies are common food allergies that significantly impact patients' quality of life and health. Wheat allergy encompasses various forms, including wheat food allergy, exercise-induced allergic reactions (WDEIA), baker's occupational asthma/allergy, and contact urticaria. IgE-mediated allergic reactions involve sensitization to stable wheat allergens such as ω-5 gliadin and gluten. Although buckwheat allergy is less common, it is gaining attention in certain regions. Allergen component diagnostic technologies, by detecting specific allergen components [e.g., ω-5 gliadin,

In the United States, approximately 2% to 3% of adults and 8% of children have a food allergy. Allergic reactions range from minor pruritus to life-threatening anaphylaxis. These allergies often lead to significant anxiety and costs for patients and caregivers. Common food allergies include peanuts, cow's milk, shellfish, tree nuts, egg, fish, soy, and wheat. Peanut allergy, the most common, is the leading cause of life-threatening anaphylaxis. Children with asthma, allergic rhinitis, atopic dermatitis, or an allergy to insect venom, medications, or latex are at an increased risk of developing

There is a profile of patient with eosinophilic oesophagitis and atopic background, marked by the existence of IgE-mediated sensitizations. Our aim is to report the observed sensitivities to environmental and food allergens and panallergens in patients with eosinophilic oesophagitis with atopic background as well as characterizing other markers or analytical parameters. We suspect that the prevalence of sensitization to panallergens will be high and this will probably be relevant in terms of the onset and clinical course of the disease. We collated clinical and analytical data from 160 adult p

Antibiotic allergies are commonly reported among patients, but most do not experience reactions on rechallenge with the same agents. These reported allergies complicate management of infections in patients labelled as having penicillin allergy, including serious infections where penicillin-based antibiotics are the first-line (most effective and least toxic) treatment option. Allergy labels are rarely questioned in clinical practice, with many clinicians opting for inferior second-line antibiotics to avoid a perceived risk of allergy. Reported allergies thereby can have significant impacts on

BACKGROUND: Lupin is a protein-rich legume with a growing presence in the food market worldwide. With increased consumption, lupin allergy (LA) reports are also rising. Uncertainties exist on the cross-reactivity between peanut and lupin, the allergenic potential of different lupin species, and sensitization patterns among different populations.
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the molecular basis of LA and to determine lupin allergens from 3 different species that may be involved in peanut allergy (PA) cross-reactivity.
METHODS: A total of 43 subjects with PA, those with LA, or controls without food

BACKGROUND: Studies in comparison with allergic diseases and sensitization between rural and urban environments in westernized countries might be biased and not adequately reflect countries undergoing rapid transition.
METHODS: A total of 5542 schoolchildren from urban area and 5139 from rural area were recruited for the EuroPrevall-INCO survey. A subsequent case-control sample with 196 children from urban area and 202 from rural area was recruited for a detailed face-to-face questionnaire and assessment of sensitization. Skin prick tests and serum-specific IgE measurements were used to asses

Allergy labels are common, often incorrect, and potentially harmful. There are many opportunities for clinical decision support (CDS) tools integrated in the electronic health record (EHR) and mobile apps to address the challenges with drug allergy management, including penicillin allergy delabeling (PADL). Effective delabeling solutions must consider multidisciplinary clinical workflow and multistep processes, including documentation, assessment, plan (eg, allergy testing and referral), record update, drug allergy alert management, and allergy reconciliation over time. Developing a systematic

Over the past decade, there has been a growing awareness of a new allergic syndrome known as alpha-gal allergy or alpha-gal syndrome, common … mmals. It is triggered by the bite of the lone star tick and has been implicated in immediate-onset hypersensitivity to the monoclonal antibody cetuximab and delayed-onset hypersensitivity reactions after the consumption of red meat. There is growing recognition of allergic reactions in these patients to other drugs and medical devices that contain alpha-gal. Many …

Various allergens are implicated in the pathogenesis of allergic diseases in different regions. This study attempted to identify the most common allergens among patients with allergies based on the results of skin prick tests in different parts of Iran. Relevant studies conducted from 2000 to 2016 were identified from the MEDLINE database. Six common groups of allergen types, including animal, cockroach, food, fungus, house dust mite, and pollen were considered. Subgroup analysis was performed to determine the prevalence of each type of allergen. The Egger test was used to assess publication b
