PURPOSE: To evaluate the visual outcome after optical sector iridectomy in cases of corneal opacities.
METHODS: Seventeen eyes of 17 patients with preoperative visual acuity of <6/60 in the affected eye underwent sector iridectomy in a prospective clinical study at a tertiary eye care center. Of 17 cases, 11 had corneal opacities after healed keratitis, four after trauma, and one each due to alkali burns or trachoma. BACKGROUND: We perform partial sphincterectomy during cataract surgery in cases with very small pupil (< 3 mm). We assume that the small pupil is mainly due to a fibrosis ring of the sphincter muscle.
PATIENTS: In 35 patients we performed the complete ophthalmological routine checkup. The pupil diameter was analysed by perimeter: a base value, with light, and in pharmaceutical mydriasis. Moreover 15 preparations were analysed histologically.

6 months after senile extra-capsular cataract extraction and posterior chamber intraocular lens (IOL) implantation, Goldmann gonioscopy was performed on 30 eyes having undertaken the surgery. Peripheral anterior synechiae (PAS) were found in 17 eyes (56%). PAS overlying the positions of 20 lens haptics were observed in 15 eyes. Stippled epiphyses occur in several monogenic, teratogenic, or aneuploidy syndromes. We describe two sibs with a provisionally unique chondrodysplasia punctata syndrome, who have, in addition to stippled epiphyses, minor facial anomalies, short stature, and ocular colobomata. The ocular penetration of 14C-forskolin in suspension was studied using albino rabbits. The effects of topical forskolin suspension on cyclic AMP (cAMP) synthesis, aqueous flow and intraocular pressure (IOP) were also studied. A total of 104 eyes and 43 resected corneal discs from patients with failed intraocular lens implants (IOL) received over a period of 35 years were subjected to histopathological analysis. We describe a patient who, throughout a period of 6 years, had several cranial tumors in different locations. Bilateral acoustic neuromas, frontal meningiomas and a brain stem schwannoma were found on clinical and CT scan examinations and were histologically confirmed after surgery. These findings were associated with cutaneous neurofibromas and large café au lait spots suggesting the diagnosis of neurofibromatosis (NF) type 2.
