[AUGMENTED ONLAY BUCCAL MUCOSAL GRAFT URETEROPLASTY FOR URETERAL STRICTURE: A CASE REPORT].

A 14-year-old boy developed hydronephrosis and worsening renal function due to fibroepithelial polyps of the bladder and left ureter at the age of 12 years. The endoscopic treatment of ureteral polyps was attempted by his previous doctor; however urethral stricture and ureteral stricture developed and was untreatable. Therefore, he was referred to our hospital for further reconstructive treatment. He underwent Palminteri urethroplasty with penile skin graft for urethral stricture at the age of 13 years, followed by ureteroplasty at the age of 14 years. The stenotic ureter was minimally resecte

Minimally Invasive Technique for Correction of Prominent Ear.

OBJECTIVES: Prominent ear is not an uncommon deformity with 5% prevalence in population worldwide. Although there is no physiological handicap in this deformity, it affects the psychology and social integration, especially in children. Many surgical techniques are performed to correct this deformity. In this study, we illustrate a minimally invasive technique in cases of prominent ear and evaluate its efficacy. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 16 patients were operated by incisionless otoplasty in both ears simultaneously. Therefore, 32 ears were included in the study. Postoperative follow-u

Anatomical principles for minimally invasive reconstruction of the acromioclavicular joint with anchors.

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the outcome of a minimally invasive surgical technique for the treatment of patients with acromioclavicular joint dislocation. METHODS: Sixteen patients with complete acromioclavicular joint dislocation were enrolled in this study. All patients were asked to follow the less active rehabilitation protocol post-operatively. Computed tomography with 3-D reconstruction of the injured shoulder was performed on each patient post operatively for the assessment of the accuracy of the suture anchor placement in the coracoid process and the reduction of th

Functional outcomes after free flap reconstruction of the upper aerodigestive tract.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: When the complex structures of the upper aerodigestive tract are disrupted after resection of head and neck tumors, an appropriate reconstructive option should be chosen in an attempt to regain maximum function. Reconstructions using microvascular free tissue transfer offer unparalleled flexibility, both in tissue composition and in placement. This article will examine functional outcomes after free flap reconstruction of the upper aerodigestive tract. RECENT FINDINGS: With the maturation of free tissue transfer techniques, functional outcomes are being analyzed with increa

Outcomes of multiple microvascular toe transfers for reconstruction in 2 patients with digitless hands: 2- and 4-year follow-up case reports.

Two farmers who sustained amputations of all digits in the dominant hand had hand reconstructions with 3 toes from both feet. Both patients were monitored with hand function tests and validated outcomes questionnaires (Michigan Hand Outcomes Questionnaire and Short Form-36). Long-term follow-up data showed that both patients were able to use the reconstructed hands for activities of daily living and heavy manual farm labor. Until the immunologic problems associated with hand transplantation are solved, multiple toe transfer for total hand reconstruction is a reliable surgical treatment for the

Right Ventricular Outflow Tract Reconstruction in Truncus Arteriosus-With or Without a Conduit? A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Background: Surgical repair of truncus arteriosus (TA) requires right ventricle-to-pulmonary artery continuity, achieved through either conduit-based (CB) reconstruction or a nonconduit-based (NCB) approach. As the optimal right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT) strategy is still debatable, we conducted a meta-analysis to compare outcomes. Methods: A systematic literature search was performed focusing on studies that compared CB and NCB RVOT reconstruction techniques for the primary correction of TA. Statistical analyses were conducted using RevMan 8.13.0, with effect estimates reported as odds

Factors predicting success following female urethroplasty: an observational study.

BACKGROUND: Female urethral stricture disease (FUSD) is an uncommon but challenging cause of bladder outlet obstruction in women. Owing to the poor long-term durability of urethral dilatation and optical internal urethrotomy, urethroplasty has emerged as the preferred definitive treatment. Ventral inlay and dorsal onlay buccal mucosal graft urethroplasty (BMGU) are widely practiced techniques; however, data on preoperative predictors of failure remain limited. This study aimed to identify factors associated with outcomes following female urethroplasty. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed 91 a

Two-layer inlay-onlay dural reconstruction technique for atrophic dura mater defects in the retrosigmoid approach.

Atrophic and thinned dura mater (DM) encountered during the retrosigmoid approach poses a recognized technical challenge for achieving watertight dural closure. When direct suturing is not feasible, the risk of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leakage and related wound complications increases. In such cases, conventional duraplasty methods-including autologous grafts, sealants, and single-layer inlay or onlay techniques-may provide limited mechanical stability and insufficient resistance to CSF pressure, particularly in the setting of fragile, atrophic dura mater. These limitations highlight the need

L-Shaped Zygotomy: A Safe and Versatile Modification of the Zygomatic Approach with Quantitative and Cosmetic Advantages in Skull Base Surgery.

BACKGROUND: The zygomatic approach provides extensive exposure of the anterior and middle skull base but carries risks of facial nerve injury, cosmetic deformity, and unstable arch reconstruction. We developed a modified L-shaped zygotomy designed to improve safety, reduce flap retraction, and ensure stable cosmetic and reconstructive outcomes, while allowing seamless transition to an orbitozygomatic craniotomy when required. METHODS: Thirty-five patients who underwent L-shaped zygotomy between August 2017 and February 2025 were retrospectively reviewed. The extent of resection, perioperative

The "Y technique": Redefining the Surgical Approach to Combined Labia Minora and Clitoral Prepuce Reduction.

INTRODUCTION: Labiaplasty is the most frequently performed female genital cosmetic surgery worldwide, with indications extending beyond aesthetics to functional and psychosocial concerns. Labia minora elongation is frequently accompanied by clitoral prepuce prominence, yet this remains overlooked in surgical planning. This study describes a surgical technique integrating labia minora reduction with clitoral prepuce contouring and reports outcomes in a retrospective cohort. METHODS: Women who underwent labiaplasty between 2018 and 2023 were contacted, and 132 of 185 (71.3%) returned anonymous

Robotic Left Hepatectomy with En Bloc Biliary Resection and Roux-en-Y Hepaticojejunostomy: A Technique of Portal Venous Tangential Vascular Reconstruction.

BACKGROUND: Robotic technology is increasingly utilized in perihilar cholangiocarcinoma treatments, requiring expertise in minimally invasive liver surgeries and biliary reconstructions. These resections often involve vascular and multiple sectoral bile duct reconstructions. Minimally invasive vascular repairs are now emerging with promising outcomes, potentially altering criteria for selecting minimally invasive hepatobiliary tumor resections. In this multimedia article, we describe our technique of robotic portal venous tangential primary reconstruction with right sectoral bile duct unificat

Skin and Bone: Intact Fish Skin to Reconstruct Traumatic Orbital Floor and Wall Defects.

Orbital reconstruction following orbital trauma, tissue sacrifice from cancer resection, or other tissue loss poses a unique challenge for surgeons. Factors to consider include the patient's systemic health status, potential for adjuvant radiation, final composition, and strength of the graft, infection risk, graft rejection, status of visual function, and cosmetic outcome. In settings where a permanent artificial implant is avoided due to exposure or infection risk, potential tissue utilized includes xenografts, allografts, and autografts-each with variable benefits and drawbacks, depending o

Venous outflow reconstruction in living-donor liver transplantation for Budd-Chiari syndrome involving vena cava.

Ironically, the hepatic vena cava is mostly involved in Budd-Chiari syndrome in the Asia-Pacific region, whereas living-donor liver transplantation is predominant, which cannot replace the hepatic cava. Hata and colleagues introduced a new surgical technique for venous reconstruction in living-donor liver transplantation, providing a novel solution to this longstanding dilemma.

Functional and aesthetic outcome after ventral spatulation of urethra in partial penectomy.

INTRODUCTION: Partial penectomy is one of the common organ preserving procedures for penile malignancies and certain benign conditions. Partial penectomy causes psychosexual morbidity to the patient. Dorsal spatulation of urethra is classically done while performing the procedure, it carries risk of meatal stenosis along with compromised cosmesis. Several complex neoglans reconstructive techniques exist to prevent stenosis and improve cosmetic outcomes. We hereby describe outcomes of a simple and reproducible modification of the procedure by ventral spatulation of the urethra. MATERIALS AND M

Excising the neovagina due to introital atresia and closed neovaginal loop after sigmoid vaginoplasty: A case report.

INTRODUCTION: Vaginal agenesis is a congenital disorder, which can be managed by nonsurgical dilation or surgical reconstruction of the vagina. The sigmoid vaginoplasty procedure is a popular approach, which pulls down part of the sigmoid colon to form a neovagina. One complication of this procedure is introital stenosis. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 55-year-old woman presented to the outpatient general surgery department with severe, persistent abdominal pain. The patient was diagnosed with congenital absence of uterus and vagina, and a sigmoid vaginoplasty was performed 34 years ago. DIAGNOSIS: A p

Backtable bronchoplasty for donor tracheal bronchus in lung transplantation.

The management of a tracheal bronchus in lung transplantation is poorly studied and ill-defined. We report a case of lung transplantation performed using a donor right lung graft with an apical tracheal bronchus and propose a novel anastomosis technique for this procedure. The neo-upper lobe bronchus created by suturing the apical tracheal bronchus and the upper lobe bronchus of the donor was anastomosed to the upper lobe bronchus of the recipient in a double-barrel fashion. A follow-up at 19 months demonstrated no stenosis of the anastomosis. The advantages and potential disadvantages of this
