AIMS: To examine self-reported physical disorders in people with recurrent depression compared with a psychiatrically healthy control group.

An unusual association of asthma and myasthenia gravis (MG) complicated by tracheal stenosis is reported. The patient was a 35-year-old black woman with a history of severe asthma and rhinitis over 30 years. A respiratory tract infection triggered a life-threatening asthma attack whose treatment required orotracheal intubation and mechanical ventilatory support. A few weeks later, tracheal stenosis was diagnosed. Clinical manifestations of MG presented 3 years after her near-fatal asthma attack. Spirometry showed severe obstruction with no response after inhalation of 400 microg of albuterol.

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the effect of short duration 1 per cent clotrimazole flush when combined with 1 per cent clotrimazole cream instilled into the frontal sinuses for the treatment of nasal aspergillosis in 14 dogs.
METHODS: Fourteen dogs with clinical, radiological, serological and rhinoscopic findings consistent with nasal aspergillosis were treated by frontal sinus trephination and a short, five-minute flushing of 1 per cent topical clotrimazole solution followed by a 1 per cent clotrimazole cream instilled as a depot agent.

Thirty serum samples from clinical cases of flour hypersensitivity were analyzed for wheat or rye flour protein antibodies. The inferior turbinates are responsible for nasal obstruction in patients with allergic and vasomotor rhinitis. Until today there is no satisfactory means of treating hypertrophied turbinates. One hundred and eighty-four patients with nasal obstruction due to hypertrophied inferior turbinates were treated with the CO2 laser using the microscope and a micromanipulator. Since 1979 several reports of contact urticaria due to natural latex have been well documented. Recent case reports suggest that rhinitis and asthma may also be due to rubber exposure. We describe an operating room nurse who was exposed at work to natural rubber (latex) due to the use of latex surgical gloves.
