First Report of Two Cases of Acute Gastric Ischemia after Robot-Assisted Radical Cystectomy.

Gastrointestinal ischemia is rare after small pelvis surgery. Minimal invasive robotic surgery requires adaptation of the surgical approach for cystectomy and derivation construction such as the use of pneumoperitoneum and Trendelenburg positioning of the patient. Two cases with gastric ischemic complications after robot-assisted radical cystectomy are described. The first case was a 68-year-old female who had prolonged gastroparalysis and blood in a replaced gastric tube at day 10 after robotic cystectomy and Bricker urinary derivation. Gastroscopy revealed ischemia of gastric and proximal du

[Robot-Assisted Partial Nephrectomy for Renal Cell Carcinoma Complicated by Leriche Syndrome : A Case Report].

A 71-year-old man was referred to our hospital for treatment of a 2 cm-sized right renal mass incidentally found by computed tomography (CT) and was diagnosed with right renal cell carcinoma cT1aN0M0. Contrast-enhanced CT revealed that the aorta was completely occluded below the inferior mesenteric artery origin, and Leriche syndrome was diagnosed. CT angiography showed several collateral arteries along the abdominal wall. A robot-assisted laparoscopic partial nephrectomy was performed to treat renal cell carcinoma. Preoperatively, we marked the collateral arteries using ultrasonography to avo

Safety of perioperative period in robot-assisted atrial septal defect repair under hyperkalemic arrest.

BACKGROUND: Various attempts have been made to meet patient desires, especially among younger and otherwise healthy individuals, for cosmetically satisfying incision with atrial septal defect (ASD) repair. One of procedures was a robotic-assisted totally endoscopic ASD repair via only two ports under hyperkalemic arrest without aortic cross-clamping. This study investigated perioperative management and safety for robotic-assisted total endoscopic ASD repair surgery under hyperkalemic arrest. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed perioperative management of thirty patients who underwent total e

Single-port robotic inguinal lymph node dissection: A safe and feasible option for penile cancer.

INTRODUCTION: Inguinal lymph node dissection (ILND) is essential to the accurate staging of advanced penile cancer and in determining prognosis. Open ILND is associated with significant morbidity. The robotic-assisted approach has been described with comparable nodal yield with the advantage of decreased postoperative complications when studied with the multiport robotic platform. This video shows our approach for an ILND with the Intuitive single port (SP) robotic platform. METHOD: A 54-year-old man underwent a partial penectomy for a penile mass that revealed squamous cell carcinoma invadin

Feasibility and tolerance of a robotic postural training to improve standing in a person with ambulatory spinal cord injury.

An ambulatory elder with SCI, AIS C, balance deficits, and right ankle-foot-orthosis participated. RobUST-intervention comprised six 90 min-sessions of postural tasks with pelvic assistance and trunk perturbations. We collected three baselines and two 1 week post-training assessments-after the first four sessions (PT1) and after the last two sessions (PT2). We measured Berg Balance Scale (BBS), four-stage balance test (4SBT)-including a 30 s-window with and without vision-standing workspace area, and reactive balance (measured as body weight%). Kinematics, center-of-pressure (COP), and electro

Situs inversus totalis patients with gastric cancer: Robotic surgery the standard of treatment?-A case report.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Situs inversus totalis (SIT) is a very rare congenital condition. Situs inversus totalis (SIT) patients who present with gastric cancer have been reported in Japan, China, the United States, and other countries. China has a high incidence of gastric cancer, accounting for 40% of the global annual incidence. Surgical treatment options for situs inversus totalis (SIT) gastric cancer patients are of great concern due to the rare nature of the condition and the anatomical variations. This case aims to demonstrate the utility of robotic surgery in treating situs inversu

Robotic versus laparoscopic right hemicolectomy: a retrospective cohort study of the Binational Colorectal Cancer Database.

Robotic right hemicolectomy (RRC) may have technical advantages over the conventional laparoscopic right colectomy (LRC) due to higher degrees of rotation, articulation, and tri-dimensional imaging. There is growing literature describing advantages of RRC compared to LRC; however, there is a lack of evidence about safety, oncologic quality of surgery and cost. This study aimed to analyse complication rates, length of stay and nodal harvest in patients undergoing minimally invasive right hemicolectomy for colon cancer from a prospective Australasian colorectal cancer database. This was a retros

Robotic-assisted ureteral reimplantation and psoas hitch after ureteral injury during cesarean section.

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: Ureteral injury during gynecological surgery can be managed in a variety of ways, from endoscopic stent placement to ureteroneocystotomy with accompanying psoas hitch and/or Boari flap. The majority of these occur during hysterectomy; therefore, gynecologic surgeons may not be as familiar with repair in women with intact uteri. Herein we present our technique for delayed robotic-assisted ureteral reimplant and psoas hitch in a woman with a ureteral injury sustained during cesarean section, which initially presented as a uretero-cervical fistula. METHODS: In this v

Comparing the outcomes and effectiveness of robotic-assisted sacrocolpopexy and laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy in the treatment of pelvic organ prolapse.

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: Abdominal sacrocolpopexy is regarded as the gold standard for management of pelvic organ prolapse (POP). Nowadays, minimally invasive surgeries are preferred, and sacrocolpopexy can be performed using either a laparoscopic or robotic-assisted approach. The aim of the current study was to compare the efficacy and safety of robotic-assisted sacrocolpopexy (RASC) and laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy (LSC) through an updated systematic review and meta-analysis. METHODS: We performed a systematic literature review of different databases and related references from their inc

Bladder neck sparing during robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy: Six-year experience.

OBJECTIVE: Prostate cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer among men in developed countries. Radical prostatectomy (RP) is the standard surgical treatment for patients with organ-confined disease and robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (RALP) procedures get more popular in the past 20 years. The most important factor of continence after RP is the preservation of the functional sphincter mechanisms. Tunc et al. described the novel bladder neck preserving technique in RALRP in 2015. The purpose of this study is to present our long-term results of our novel technique during

Ligating clip migration after robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy: a single-center experience.

BACKGROUND: Ligating clip migration (LCM) after robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (RARP) is a rare but troublesome complication, that may result in calculus formation, bladder neck contracture, and anastomotic stricture. Herein, we describe our experiences with LCM after RARP and explore its risk factors, potential pathogenesis, and preventive measures. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed patients who underwent RARP at our medical center between December 2015 and June 2019, identifying individuals with LCM. Clinical and surgical data were collected from these patients. RESUL

insideOut: A Bio-Inspired Machine Learning Approach to Estimating Posture in Robots Driven by Compliant Tendons.

Estimates of limb posture are critical for controlling robotic systems. This is generally accomplished with angle sensors at individual joints that simplify control but can complicate mechanical design and robustness. Limb posture should be derivable from each joint's actuator shaft angle but this is problematic for compliant tendon-driven systems where (i) motors are not placed at the joints and (ii) nonlinear tendon stiffness decouples the relationship between motor and joint angles. Here we propose a novel machine learning algorithm to accurately estimate joint posture during dynamic tasks

Real time control and fabrication of a soft robotic glove by two parallel sensors with MBD approach.

Soft robotic gloves were designed to aid the rehabilitation process with hand pathologies and coordination of gripping exercises. The main issue in soft robotic actuators is to design a control strategy to overcome deformation in grasping exercises. In this paper, a new soft robotic actuator is developed to be protected against swell and deformation. This soft robotic glove is equipped with two sensors; these sensors make the robotic glove more intelligent. In the hardware, it was used two sensors in the new closed-loop method which include an air pressure sensor in the figure tip and a flex s

Data Driven Calibration and Control of Compact Lightweight Series Elastic Actuators for Robotic Exoskeleton Gloves.

The working principle of a SEA is based on using an elastic material connected serially to the mechanical power source to simulate the dynamic behavior of a human muscle. Due to weight and size limitations of a wearable robotic exoskeleton, the hardware design of the SEA is limited. Compact and lightweight SEAs usually have noisy signal output, and can easily be deformed. This paper uses a compact lightweight SEA designed for exoskeleton gloves to demonstrate immeasurable strain and friction force which can cause an average of 34.31% and maximum of 44.7% difference in force measurement on such
