Palmoplantar pustulosis (PPP) is difficult to treat. There is little hard evidence for the efficacy of any treatment and no published guidelines for its management. A number of exacerbating factors are well documented and there is some evidence for the importance of others. Smoking is the most recognized environmental trigger and recent research has concentrated on the role of eccrine sweat glands in this regard. BACKGROUND: Lemierre syndrome is a rare disease of the head and neck often affecting adolescents and young adults. Classically, infection begins in the oropharynx with thrombosis of the tonsillar veins followed by involvement of the parapharyngeal space and the internal jugular vein. Septicemia and pulmonary lesions develop as infection spreads via septic emboli. Although a rare entity in modern times, Lemierre syndrome remains a disease of considerable morbidity and potential mortality.

An in vitro model of the upper respiratory tract of the horse was developed to investigate mechanisms of respiratory diseases. A female patient presented with globus sensation, chronic cough, and choking attacks. Endoscopic examination showed lingual tonsillar hypertrophy. Partial lingual tonsillectomy was planned. Surgery was performed under local anesthesia in the sitting position, with the use of the microdebrider under the guidance of an endoscope. The operation was accomplished with minimal bleeding. Surgery was very comfortable and easy for both the patient and the surgeon. The microdebrider was found to be effective and useful in the management of lingual tonsillar hypertrophy.

A 50-year-old woman developed prominent hyperkeratosis on the soles and erythema of her extremities. In this instance it was clinically difficult to distinguish the palmoplantar lesions from psoriasis vulgaris. OBJECTIVES: Recent literature has suggested that histopathologic analysis of routine tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy (T&A) specimens may be unnecessary. This study investigates T&A specimen handling practices in the United States between 1989 and 1999.
METHODS: Surveys were sent to 4715 members of the American Academy of Otolaryngology. Surveys assessed practice type, pathologic processing practices (full, gross, no pathology), and reasons for change. The authors also performed a retrospective analysis of 1583 pediatric T&A specimens for evidence of occult malignancy.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this paper is to investigate the relationship between nocturnal enuresis (NE) and upper airway obstruction (UAO) in pediatric population.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: This study presents the results of our experience with 321 children who underwent adenotonsillar surgery.
RESULTS: Among 321 children who were operated on, 111 (35%) had NE. Seventy-four of the 111 children who had NE have been evaluated postoperatively. With regard to the rarity of metastatic tumor of the oropharyngeal region, we report a case of tonsillar metastases from the small cell carcinoma of the lung with controlateral cervical lymphadenopathy. The review of literature and the our clinic experience confirms the opportunity for an exclusively palliative treatment as then one no survivors in such events.
