Propagation and reflection of plane elastic waves in the acousto-optic crystals tellurium dioxide, rutile, barium titanate, and mercury halides are examined in the paper. The purpose of this study was to compare the clinical efficacy of ultrasound (US) therapy and laser therapy in patients with symptomatic benign ectopy of the uterine cervix. OBJECTIVE: To determine the efficacy of a fixed dose of ultrasound energy to treat acute lateral ligament sprains of the ankle joint.
STUDY DESIGN: Double-blind randomised controlled trial.
SETTING: Accident and Emergency department of University Teaching Hospital.
SUBJECTS: Patients presenting at Accident and Emergency with ankle injuries.
INTERVENTION: Ultrasound or placebo, and Tubigrip.

A new Doppler probe inside a needle was evaluated in a group of infants and children to assess its suitability for subclavian venous access. While the efficient use of this device required learning a new technique, we found the device useful to accurately locate the subclavian vein and differentiate it from the artery in all patients weighing more than 3 kg. This device will be most helpful in cases of difficult access, eg, scar from previous access, obesity, or edema.

Sixteen patients with hepatocellular carcinoma had duplex pulsed Doppler scanning of the portal thrombus and comparative angiography.
