The clinical, pathomorphological and microbiological findings during meat inspection in 599 pigs with endocarditis at slaughter were studied. Clinical signs were observed in 41 per cent of the pigs on ante-mortem inspection. Lameness was the most common sign. However, this symptom is not very specific of endocarditis. This is also true of various other symptoms. Only dyspnoea and drowsiness were indicative of endocarditis to some extent, but occurred only sporadically. Clinical efficacy of piperacillin against 74 cases with complicated urinary tract infection was examined. Piperacillin was administered at the dose of 4 g (2 g twice daily) through intravenous drip infusion. Guidelines available for the diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) in children vary widely. In an area of high prevalence, pulmonary TB was often suspected but difficult to confirm. In a prospective study, diagnostic methods were recorded in 144 consecutive children admitted and diagnosed as having pulmonary TB. The author compares the epidemiological, cytological and colposcopical data found in IUD users, with a control population of estro-progestogens and condom users. In this study, nutritional status 3 wk after starting 20 induction course of chemotherapy with enteral nasogastric tube feeding was compared to the nutritional status after 35 courses with a normal oral hospital diet. Review of the bacteriologic records of a large city-county hospital from 1970 through 1980 has indicated a substantial increase in the frequency of isolation of non-group D alpha-hemolytic streptococci from blood and cerebrospinal fluid of neonates since 1978. A case of glossitis calcinosa in a dog caused by Pasteurella multocida is reported. Swelling of the tongue and reduced appetite were the predominant clinical symptoms.
