BACKGROUND: Avian influenza virus H7N9 has jumped species barrier, causing sporadic human infections since 2013. We have previously isolated an H7N9 virus from a patient, and an H7N9 virus from a chicken in a live poultry market where the patient visited during the incubation period. Chickens and turkeys were fed from hatching basal diets to which tocopherol was added at levels of 10, 50 and 250 mg/kg for 28 days. During the last 4 days [3H]tocopherol and 141Ce were included in the diets.
