The possibilities of the transport systems manufactured by Copan (Italy) and Deltalab (Spain) were studied on 15 microbial strains: representatives of the family Enterobacteriaceae (enterobacterial swabs with Cary-Blair medium) and the genus Streptococcus, as well as the species Neisseria meningitidis, Haemophilus influenzae (universal swabs with charcoal-enriched Amies medium). Bacteriophages specific for Leuconostoc oenos were isolated from four red wines undergoing malolactic fermentation in one winery. Bacteriophages were not found in samples of 16 other wines. Occurrence of actinomyces infection, following IUD insertion, was observed by the authors in two cases. A pathogenetic role has been positively ascribed to the IUD. Candidiasis often is the final insult to the critically ill patient. Flucytosine, an orally administered antifungal agent, was used in the treatment of 225 patients with genitourinary candidiasis. Criteria for treatment included clinical manifestations, high urine colony counts of Candida, serologic findings and in vitro sensitivity of Candida to flucytosine.
