Amyloidosis is a well-known but uncommon disease, and the physician must maintain a high index of suspicion in order to make a timely diagnosis. The expected survival of patients with cardiac amyloidosis is generally poor. In particular, survival has been reported to be 4-12 months for patients with amyloid light-chain amyloidosis with congestive heart failure. We herein report a rare case of cardiac amyloidosis in which the patient presented with cardiac hypertrophy after a 20-year history of dilated cardiomyopathy and heart failure.

BACKGROUND: The percentage flow-mediated dilation (FMD%) of the brachial artery is purported to be an early indicator of atherosclerosis and has been reported to be reduced in people with obstructive sleep apnoea. BACKGROUND: Left cardiac chambers dilation, interstitial lung changes and pleural effusions are the characteristics of cardiogenic pulmonary oedema on computed tomography (CT) of the chest but mensuration of the left atrial size is not routinely performed. Cardiac chambers normal dimensions are known to be proportional to the patient's build and anthropomorphic data but adjustment of chambers dimensions to available elements seen on the axial CT images has never been evaluated before.

BACKGROUND: Bicuspid aortic valves are associated with aortic dilation and dissection. There is a paucity of prospective studies evaluating changes in aortic size over time in adult subjects with bicuspid aortic valves.
METHODS: A total of 115 subjects with asymptomatic bicuspid aortic valves were enrolled from 2003 to 2008 and followed prospectively over 5 years. Clinical and family histories, as well as transthoracic echocardiograms, were obtained at baseline, and echocardiograms were performed annually thereafter.
RESULTS: The mean age of subjects was 41.8 ± 12.8 years, and 61% were male.

OBJECTIVE: We evaluated pessary for dilated cervix and exposed membranes for prolonging pregnancy compared to cerclage or expectant management.
METHODS: Multicenter retrospective cohort study of women, 15-24 weeks, singleton pregnancies, dilated cervix ≥2 cm and exposed membranes. Women received pessary, cerclage or expectant management.
