Pseudoxanthoma elasticum (PXE) is an inherited disorder of elastic tissue. Here we report a 34-year-old male patient who developed multiple symptomless yellowish papules over his neck for several months. He visited our dermatologic out-patient-clinic because his sister had similar skin lesions and mild visual impairment. Cysts and tumors of the rete ovarii have been described only rarely and little is known of their pathology. We describe herein 16 cases of cysts (cystadenomas), 2 solid adenomas, and 1 adenocarcinoma of rete ovarii origin. The patients with the cysts were 23-80 years of age (mean age, 59 years). Heart disease is a major cause of death in thal patients after the first decade of life. This study was carried out on autopsy material from 76 patients, six with beta-thal major, 58 with beta-thal/Hb E, and 12 with Hb H disease.
