BACKGROUND: To evaluate demographic and clinical features of patients with allergic conjunctivitis in a reference center.

Exposure to air pollution has been shown to cause arterial vasoconstriction and alter autonomic balance. Because these biologic responses may influence systemic hemodynamics, we investigated the effect of air pollution on blood pressure (BP). OBJECTIVE: To determine whether previous health experiences affect the prevalence of occupational lung disease in a semirural Botswanan community where there is a long history of labour recruitment to South African mines.
METHOD: A cross sectional prevalence study of 304 former miners examined according to a protocol including a questionnaire, chest radiograph, spirometry, and medical examination.
RESULTS: Overall mean age was 56.7 (range 28-93) years, mean duration of service 15.5 (range 2-42) years. 26.6% had a history of tuberculosis. 23.3% had experienced a disabling occupational injury.

Scientific interest in small airways emerged in the 1960s. However, despite this early recognition, they long remained a "silent" area of the lung. In this nonsystematic narrative mini-review, we evaluated the different spirometry thresholds used to define small airways dysfunction (SAD), comparing them with other diagnostic techniques. We then examined the various factors associated with SAD, focusing on SAD as defined by spirometry.Maximal mid-expiratory flow, especially below the lower limit of normal (LLN), appears to be the most accurate and reproducible spirometric measure to assess SAD.

BACKGROUND: In the last decade, only 3 plastic surgery programs have faced nonvoluntary closure by the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education. These closures all occurred unexpectedly in April 2021 and affected 23 trainees. Although the dust has largely settled from this event, the insights of the affected trainees remain uncharacterized.
METHODS: The Program Closure Working Group of the American Society of Plastic Surgery's Resident Council created a 30-item questionnaire and distributed it to displaced trainees 1 year after program closures to capture their perspectives.
