Response of broiler chickens fed low-energy diets to increase levels of lysolecithin: linking growth performance with lipid metabolism gene expression, gut microbial modulation, intestinal morphology, and economic efficiency.

Lowering dietary energy density cuts feed costs but impairs broiler growth due to the limited fat digestion capacity of young birds. Supplementing low energy diets with lysolecithin (a hydrolyzed soy lecithin product) has been reported to counteract this limitation, as its emulsifying action may enhance fat digestion and energy utilization and thereby help to restore performance. This study is designed to evaluate the effects of lysolecithin supplementation on growth performance, remodeling of lipid genes metabolism and intestinal microbiota, antioxidant status, immunological response, and int

Optimising a digital parent-based intervention to improve adolescent health risk behaviours in families living in socio-economically disadvantaged communities: findings from the Health4Life Parents & Teens factorial randomised trial.

BACKGROUND: Adolescence is a critical period when health risk behaviours contributing to long-term disease burden emerge. Parent-based interventions show promise, yet engagement is often low and few exist for socioeconomically disadvantaged communities. We applied the Multiphase Optimisation Strategy (MOST) to identify a maximally effective, minimally burdensome digital intervention to support parents to improve adolescent health risk behaviours. METHODS: A 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 factorial randomised trial was conducted with parents of adolescents (aged 11-15 years), living in a disadvantaged area of

Beyond the Cycle: Investigating the Relationship Between Menstrual Hygiene Factors, Family Economic Stability, and Depression Among Adolescent Girls in Uganda-A 24 Month Mixed-Effects Regression Analysis of the Suubi4Her Trial.

PURPOSE: Menstrual hygiene management (MHM) is essential for adolescent well-being, yet many girls lack adequate menstrual products. While MHM factors are linked to depression, little is known about these associations in Uganda. Because financial insecurity and family context can intensify or buffer menstrual challenges, we examined the relationships between menstrual knowledge, pain, affordability barriers, supply type, restrictions, and depression in the context of an intervention targeting economic and family support. METHODS: We analyzed data from a three-arm cluster randomized controlled

Mobile Phone Network Data in the COVID-19 era: A systematic review of applications, socioeconomic factors affecting compliance to non-pharmaceutical interventions, privacy implications, and post-pandemic economic recovery strategies.

BACKGROUND: The use of traditional mobility datasets, such as travel surveys and census data, has significantly impacted various disciplines, including transportation, urban sensing, criminology, and healthcare. However, because these datasets represent only discrete instances of measurement, they miss continuous temporal shifts in human activities, failing to record the majority of human mobility patterns in real-time. Bolstered by the rapid expansion of telecommunication networks and the ubiquitous use of smartphones, mobile phone network data (MPND) played a pivotal role in fighting and con

The effectiveness of JU:MP a whole system approach to improve physical activity of children aged 5 to 11 years living in multi-ethnic and socio-economically deprived communities: a non-randomised controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Whole system approaches to public health challenges such as low physical activity levels have the potential to create sustained behaviour change at a population level and tackle health inequalities. However, there is currently little evidence of the nature or effectiveness of adopting whole system approaches. This study evaluated whether a whole system physical activity intervention (JU:MP), was effective at improving accelerometry measured physical activity in five- to eleven-year-olds. METHODS: A non-randomised controlled trial with two-arms (JU:MP intervention and control), was

Impact of single round of low dose CT lung cancer screening on cause of mortality in different socio-economic groups: a post-hoc analysis of long-term follow-up of the UKLS trial.

BACKGROUND: Lower socioeconomic status, as measured by the Index of Multiple Deprivation (IMD), is associated with higher rates of smoking-related disease mortality, and with poor uptake of cancer screening. Here we explore whether socioeconomic status impacts the effectiveness of a single round of low-dose-CT screening, or impacts other causes of death, in the UKLS LDCT screening trial. METHODS: IMD quintiles were defined according to UK-wide data, with the deprived group defined as the lower two quintiles (Q1-2) and the less deprived as Q3-5. Follow-up data was obtained for lung cancer diag

Economic Evaluation of Videoconference Group Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Behavioral Activation Therapy for Depression Versus Usual Care Among Adults With Chronic Low Back Pain Plus Comorbid Depressive Symptoms.

Chronic pain and depression are frequently comorbid conditions associated with significant health care and social costs. This study examined the cost-utility and cost-effectiveness of videoconference-based group forms of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Behavioral Activation Therapy for Depression (BATD), as a complement to treatment-as-usual (TAU), for patients with chronic low back pain (CLBP) plus depressive symptoms, compared to TAU alone. A trial-based economic evaluation (n = 234) was conducted from a governmental and health care perspective with a time horizon of 12 months. P

Old wine in a new bottle: Applying the novel dynamic ARDL simulations approach to explore the impact of energy efficiency, financial development, economic growth, foreign direct investment, and urbanization on CO2 emissions.

Achieving carbon neutrality targets is crucial while considering the adverse impacts of carbon dioxide emissions (CE) on human life and the ecosystem. Therefore, its socioeconomic drivers have frequently been probed in the existing body of literature. Therefore, we investigate the impact of energy efficiency, FDI, financial development, urbanization, and economic growth on CE in Pakistan from 1975 to 2020. For this purpose, we apply the novel dynamic ARDL simulation approach to retrieve the short- and long-run estimates. The empirical results confirm that cointegration exists among the conside

Surgical microdiscectomy versus transforaminal epidural steroid injection in patients with sciatica secondary to herniated lumbar disc (NERVES): a phase 3, multicentre, open-label, randomised controlled trial and economic evaluation.

BACKGROUND: The optimal invasive treatment for sciatica secondary to herniated lumbar disc remains controversial, with a paucity of evidence for use of non-surgical treatments such as transforaminal epidural steroid injection (TFESI) over surgical microdiscectomy. We aimed to investigate the clinical and cost-effectiveness of these options for management of radicular pain secondary to herniated lumbar disc. METHODS: We did a pragmatic, multicentre, phase 3, open-label, randomised controlled trial at 11 spinal units across the UK. Eligible patients were aged 16-65 years, had MRI-confirmed non-

AMBIsome Therapy Induction OptimisatioN (AMBITION): High dose AmBisome for cryptococcal meningitis induction therapy in sub-Saharan Africa: economic evaluation protocol for a randomised controlled trial-based equivalence study.

INTRODUCTION: Cryptococcal meningitis is responsible for around 15% of all HIV-related deaths globally. Conventional treatment courses with amphotericin B require prolonged hospitalisation and are associated with multiple toxicities and poor outcomes. A phase II study has shown that a single high dose of liposomal amphotericin may be comparable to standard treatment. We propose a phase III clinical endpoint trial comparing single, high-dose liposomal amphotericin with the WHO recommended first-line treatment at six sites across five counties. An economic analysis is essential to support wide-s

An experienced physiotherapist prescribing and administering corticosteroid and local anaesthetic injections to the shoulder in an Australian orthopaedic service, a non-inferiority randomised controlled trial and economic analysis: study protocol for a randomised controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: The early management of orthopaedic outpatients by physiotherapists may be useful in reducing public hospital waiting lists. Physiotherapists in Australia are prevented by legislation and funding models from investigating, prescribing, injecting and referring autonomously. This gap in service is particularly noticeable in the management of shoulder pain in early-access physiotherapy services, as patients needing corticosteroid injection face delays or transfer to other services for this procedure. This trial will investigate the clinical (decision making and outcomes) and economic

Comparison of the costs of nonoperative care to minimally invasive surgery for sacroiliac joint disruption and degenerative sacroiliitis in a United States commercial payer population: potential economic implications of a new minimally invasive technology.

INTRODUCTION: Low back pain is common and treatment costly with substantial lost productivity and lost wages in the working-age population. Chronic low back pain originating in the sacroiliac (SI) joint (15%-30% of cases) is commonly treated with nonoperative care, but new minimally invasive surgery (MIS) options are also effective in treating SI joint disruption. We assessed whether the higher initial MIS SI joint fusion procedure costs were offset by decreased nonoperative care costs from a US commercial payer perspective. METHODS: An economic model compared the costs of treating SI joint d
