BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: The current standard of treatment for malignant peritoneal mesothelioma(MPM)is cytoreductive surgery(CRS)plus perioperative intraperitoneal or systemic chemotherapy(comprehensive treatment), The present study was performed to clarify the prognostic factors of PMP after comprehensive treatment.
METHODS: Among 63 patients with MPM, male and female patients were 34 and 29. CRSwas performed in 47 patients and complete cytoreduction(CC-0) was performed in 14(22%)patients. Mean numbers of resected peritoneal sectors and organs were 5.2(1-13), and 2.9(0- 9), respectively.

BACKGROUND: Malignant peritoneal disease can lead to significant debility due to bowel obstructions, ascites, and cancer cachexia. Moreover, inadequate imaging techniques can lead to the suboptimal detection of disease, and the poor vascularity of tumors can lead to a poor response to systemic chemotherapy. The Escobar variant of multiple pterygium syndrome (MPS) is a rare, autosomal recessive disorder which may lead to many serious or even lethal fetal abnormalities. This article reviews recent developments concerning local anesthetics, including the amount of pain resulting from injection, which drugs achieve anesthesia most effectively, proper dosing for anesthetizing children and adults, the maximum recommended doses of lidocaine 2% with epinephrine for cardiac patients, and which drugs can be used for patients taking monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors, tricyclic antidepressants, or nonselective beta blockers. UNLABELLED: 146 procedures using hyperthermic intraoperative peritoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) were performed in 121 patients in the FNB Surgical Clinic, during 2000-2008. Neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS) is a life-threatening neurologic emergency that may be caused by neuroleptic agents of any class. The association with hyperosmolar hyperglycemic state (HHS) is rare and carries a grave prognosis. We describe the case of a 25-year-old male patient with haloperidol-induced NMS complicated by HHS that culminated in the patient's death despite all treatment efforts. Physicians caring for diabetic psychiatric patients who are treated with neuroleptic agents should be aware of this association that may be prevented by tight glycemic control.
