PURPOSE: The aim of the present study was to assess the prognostic significance of serum soluble interleukin-2 receptor (sIL-2R) in aggressive non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL).
METHODS: One hundred and thirteen consecutive patients with previously untreated aggressive NHL (diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, 96; peripheral T-cell lymphoma, 17) prospectively participated in this study between 1995 and 2001. The patients were treated with 6-8 cycles of a CHOP or THP (pirarubicin)-COP regimen.

BACKGROUND: Venous thromboembolism (VTE) remains a frequent complication in orthopedic and trauma patients, despite the use of prophylactic antithrombotic drugs like standard or low molecular weight heparin. A new synthetic pentasaccharide with specific anti-Xa activity (fondaparinux sodium) has been shown to reduce the overall risk of VTE in major orthopedic surgery by 50% without increasing the risk of clinically relevant bleeding, when compared with enoxaparin. Beyond their traditional role as anticoagulants, heparin and low molecular weight heparin possess potent immunomodulatory effects.

AIMS: To study the relationships between serum IGF-1, IGFBP-3 and IGFBP-2 and interleukin (IL)-1beta and IL-6 in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

We have recently shown that dithiocarbamate (DC) disulfides inhibit proteolytic processing of the caspase-3 proenzyme in Jurkat T lymphocytes treated with anti-CD95 (Fas/APO-1) antibody.
