Subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE) patients carry persistent measles virus infection in the brain. Furthermore, the blood lymphocytes contain viral RNA. Lymphocytes derived from 6 SSPE patients were stimulated with Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). Production of antibodies against measles virus of the IgG isotype was detected in the supernatants of cell cultures of all patients, regardless of the disease's activity, duration or interferon therapy. In contrast, only some of these cell cultures also produced antibodies against myelin.

18 patients with acute non-lymphocytic leukaemia were treated with Prednimustine, a chlorambucil ester of prednisolone, as a single drug. 5 patients responded with falling blast counts in peripheral blood, but only 1 obtained a complete remission of 3 months' duration. Since the activity of Prednimustine is lower than that of other commonly used drugs in acute non-lymphocytic leukaemia, future studies should concentrate on other aspects, such as treatment of patients with steroid receptor-positive blast cells or other types of leukaemia.

Production of the lymphokine leucocyte inhibitory factor (LIF) by phytohaemagglutinin (PHA)-stimulated lymphocytes was assessed in 25 children with kwashiorkor. The increased intensity and prolongation of contact hypersensitivity reactions in animals treated 3 days prior to sensitization with 300 mg/kg cyclophosphamide (CY) has been investigated.
