Research progress on the impact of opioids on the tumor immune microenvironment (Review).

Opioids have been extensively used in cancer pain management because they can significantly improve the quality of life of patients with advanced cancer. However, recent evidence suggests that opioids can also modulate the tumor immune microenvironment by interacting with opioid receptors on immune cells, potentially regulating tumor progression and efficacy of cancer treatments. Notably, morphine can exhibit a dose-dependent effect on tumor immunity in pancreatic cancer and renal cell models, with lower doses potentially promoting tumor migration and invasion of pancreatic cancer cells, where

Pyroptosis as a therapeutic target in preeclampsia: current research and future directions.

Preeclampsia (PE) is a severe pregnancy-specific disorder characterized by new-onset hypertension and proteinuria after the 20th week of gestation, posing significant threats to maternal and fetal health. Globally, approximately 4 million women are diagnosed with PE annually, resulting in over 70,000 maternal deaths and 500,000 infant deaths. The exact pathogenesis of PE remains unclear and is associated with multiple factors, including obesity, diabetes, and chronic kidney disease. Pyroptosis, a newly discovered form of programmed cell death, is characterized by plasma membrane rupture and th

A global perspective on research advances and future challenges in Friedreich ataxia.

Friedreich ataxia (FRDA) is a rare multisystem, life-limiting disease and is the most common early-onset inherited ataxia in populations of European, Arab and Indian descent. In recent years, substantial progress has been made in dissecting the pathogenesis and natural history of FRDA, and several clinical trials have been initiated. A particularly notable recent achievement was the approval of the nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 activator omaveloxolone as the first disease-specific therapy for FRDA. In light of these developments, we review milestones in FRDA translational and cli

Evolutionary patterns and research frontiers in autophagy in podocytopathies: a bibliometric analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Podocytopathies are a uniquely renal disease syndrome, in which direct or indirect podocyte injury leads to proteinuria or nephrotic syndrome. Of the many factors that contribute to podocytopathies, the abnormal regulation of autophagy, such insufficient or excessive autophagy levels, have been proposed to play a significant role in the occurrence and development of podocytopathies. However, there still has been a lack of systematic and comparative research to elucidate exact role of autophagy in podocytopathies and its current research status. This study aims to utilize bibliome

Traumatic cardiac arrest, what clinicians and researchers must know.

Survival rates for trauma cardiac arrest (TCA) routinely range from 2 to 5% and have not improved in high-income countries over the past two decades, unlike those for medically induced cardiac arrests. This persisting low TCA survival rates have led to debates, about the value of resuscitating TCA patients, considering the significant risks and costs involved compared to the low chances of favorable outcomes. As well, TCA patients are frequently excluded from large randomized controlled trials on cardiac arrest management, with most research consisting of retrospective studies and clinical cas
