OBJECTIVE: Umbilical hernia is a very frequent pathology, and plastic with prosthetic material is the most frequently used surgical procedure currently used for its repair. In patients with cirrhosis in asciic phase, this pathology is particularly frequent, with a tendency to rapidly increase in size and to become symptomatic. In the past treatment with traditional surgery in cirrhotic patients was considered problematic and was viewed with reserve, and only recently is the surgical approach recommended also in these patients. This study is aimed to evaluate the feasibility and safety of open

To provide insight into the clinical anatomy of Tenon's capsule and to describe a technique to manage sclerocorneal defects using autologous Tenon's tissue. A thin layer of Tenon's capsule harvested from the patient's own eye is used to seal the defect and act as a scaffold. The Tenon's flap is spread over the defect and held in place by Vicryl sutures. A bandage contact lens is then placed on the eye. Tenon's capsule is composed of thick fibrous tissue with smooth muscle fibers and a thin posterior capsule of orbital fat. It is rich in fibroblasts, which can accelerate wound healing and event

OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS: Recent advances in surgical techniques have rendered the craniocervical junction (CCJ) accessible transnasally. Endoscopic endonasal transclival and transodontoid approaches are routinely performed in leading skull base centers. Usually, these approaches involve a posterior bony and mucosal septectomy, which may compromise the vascularized pedicled nasoseptal flap (PNSF), a robust reconstructive option for repair of large skull base defects. With the possibility of an intraoperative cerebrospinal fluid leak and the reported success of the PNSF for repair of these defects

Malignant tumors of the anterior mediastinum frequently appear locally advanced at the time of diagnosis, with invasion of the surrounding organs including major blood vessels, lungs, and pericardium. Surgery can be indicated either with diagnostic intent or for radical resection, usually as a part of a multimodality treatment. Extended operations with complex vascular reconstructions may be required for the complete removal of the mediastinal mass. In this article, surgical approaches and techniques of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures are reported and discussed.

BACKGROUND: The muscular system of the jaw and face is characterized by highly differential dynamics due to its strong presence within the motoric region of the cerebral cortex. Abnormal activity of the masticatory or mimic muscular system, whether acquired or congenital, leads to aesthetic and/or functional impairments for the patient. Subsequently, pathological changes of the tissue structure caused by persistent dysfunction can entail chronic pain and progressive aesthetic reduction can induce psychopathological conditions in a patient.
