AIM: Sarcoidosis is a multisystem granulomatous disease of unknown etiology. While pulmonary and dermatological manifestations are well documented, oral involvement is rare and presents significant diagnostic challenges for dental practitioners. This systematic review synthesizes current literature on oral sarcoidosis, focusing on clinical presentations, diagnostic pathways, treatment outcomes, and dental implications.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A comprehensive literature search was conducted in PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science (January 2021 - January 2026) using terms related to sarcoidosis an

BACKGROUND: Despite the efficacy of biologics in psoriasis treatment, their contraindications limit accessibility. Traditional systemic agents like cyclosporine A (CsA) and acitretin remain first-line options for long-term management, yet evidence on their combined use is scarce.
METHODS: In this randomized controlled trial, patients with moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis were assigned to CsA + acitretin combination therapy, CsA monotherapy, or acitretin monotherapy. Treatment lasted 12-16 weeks with follow-up to week 24. The primary outcomes were the proportions of patients achieving at le

Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) is a serious, potentially life-threatening condition affecting the skin and mucous membranes. This syndrome occurs twice as frequently in females compared to males and affects individuals across all age groups. The most common triggers are drugs. Here, we present a case of SJS linked to doxycycline/flucloxacillin-induced SJS. A 76-year-old woman with Sjögren's syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis (RA), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and osteoarthritis (OA) was referred by her General Practitioner (GP) with a rapidly spreading, itchy, hyperkeratotic rash

Background/Objectives: High-frequency ultrasonography (HFUS) has gained increasing attention in dermatology as a non-invasive imaging technique capable of visualizing cutaneous structures with high resolution. In cutaneous T-cell lymphomas (CTCL), including mycosis fungoides (MF)/Sézary syndrome (SS), HFUS may provide an objective method for assessing disease activity and monitoring treatment response. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical utility of HFUS in detecting therapy-induced changes in subepidermal low-echogenic band (SLEB) thickness. Methods: We conducted a prospective, single-ce

INTRODUCTION: Studies directly comparing the effectiveness of different biologics over long observation periods are lacking. As many treatment guidelines are formulated based on drug class, there is a particular need to compare drug classes rather than specific biologic agents.
METHODS: This post hoc analysis compares the effectiveness and durability of biologics that target the interleukin (IL)-17 A ligands or the IL-17 receptor A (IL-17RA) relative to other approved drug classes in patients with moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis, through 12 months in a real-world setting.

BACKGROUND: Topical chlormethine (CL) is recommended as a first-line treatment for early-stage mycosis fungoides (MF) and in 2017, the European Medicines Agency approved the CL gel formulation to treat adult patients. More recently, to increase patient compliance and adherence, clinicians have developed flexible protocols that allow the concomitant use of CL gel with topical corticosteroids in daily practice regimens. Therefore, sharing real-life data on CL gel use and side effects management may help improve the use of this agent.
OBJECTIVES: To expand knowledge about the actual use of CL ge

PURPOSE: Hepatitis C virus (HCV) spreads from contact with blood of an infected person. HCV infections are common among people who use drugs (PWUDs), when sharing needles, syringes, or other equipment for injected drugs. The advent of pangenotypic direct-antiviral agents (DAA) in 2017 transformed the treatment landscape for HCV, but PWUDs remain a complex and hard-to-treat population with high risk of HCV reinfection. The aim of this real-world analysis was to characterize the demographic and clinical features of PWUDs in Italy, also focusing on comorbidity profile, treatment with DAAs, resour

RATIONALE: Drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS) syndrome is a severe cutaneous drug reaction characterized by fever, lymphadenopathy, hematologic abnormalities, single or multiple organ involvement, and viral reactivation.[1] The most frequently reported offending drugs are aromatic antiepileptic agents, antibiotics, and allopurinol.[2] Though a relatively rare syndrome, DRESS can lead to severe multi-organ system dysfunction, and in some cases even death. DRESS is one of the severe drug eruptions in dermatological diseases, but it is difficult to diagnose for internis

This review provides an overview of SAPHO (Synovitis, Acne, Pustulosis, Hyperostosis, and Osteitis), a rare autoinflammatory disease that primarily affects bones, skin, and joints. We conducted a search on Medline/PubMed using keywords such as SAPHO syndrome, chronic recurrent multifocal osteitis/osteomyelitis, and related terms. SAPHO syndrome is rare, with a reported frequency of 1 in 10,000 in the Caucasian population. However, the actual incidence of SAPHO syndrome is unknown, and the incidence of the disease is likely higher. The pathogenesis of SAPHO syndrome remains incompletely underst

BACKGROUND: Melasma (facial dermatoses) is an acquired chronic disorder of hyperpigmentation over sun exposed parts and continues to be a therapeutic challenge due to the presence of melanin at varying depths in the epidermis and dermis, and many researchers are working hard to find a solution. The main culprit to remain is direct sun exposure, with other factors like drugs, genetic predisposition, thyroid abnormalities, pregnancy, phototoxic and photoallergic cosmetics. Melasma continues to have a remarkable impact on the well-being of affected patients causing deep psychological and social a

BACKGROUND: Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) facial lipoatrophy (FLA) is associated with the use of highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) and HIV disease. HIV FLA is primarily characterized by midface (cheeks and temples) volume loss, resulting in a "sunken" and aged appearance. Filler agents for treatment of HIV FLA can provide midface volumization and improve quality-of-life (QOL). A 20 mg/ml hyaluronic acid (HA) filler (Juvéderm Voluma® XC, Allergan plc, Irvine, CA) may provide an immediate, natural appearing facial enhancement outcome in one treatment. We hypothesized that this HA

PURPOSE: Up to 50% of patients with uveal melanoma (UM) develop metastatic disease with limited treatment options. The immunomodulating agent ipilimumab has shown an overall survival (OS) benefit in patients with cutaneous metastatic melanoma in two phase III trials. As patients with UM were excluded in these studies, the Dermatologic Cooperative Oncology Group (DeCOG) conducted a phase II to assess the efficacy and safety of ipilimumab in patients with metastatic UM.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: We undertook a multicenter phase II study in patients with different subtypes of metastatic melanoma. He

More than 100 drugs are used to treat the many different cancers. They can be divided into agents with relatively broad, non-targeted specificity and targeted drugs developed on the basis of a more refined understanding of individual cancers and directed at specific molecular targets on different cancer cells. Individual drugs in both groups have been classified on the basis of their mechanism of action in killing cancer cells. The targeted drugs include proteasome inhibitors, toxic chimeric proteins and signal transduction inhibitors such as tyrosine kinase (non-receptor and receptor), serine

Vitiligo is a psychologically devastating clinical conundrum which affects approximately 1% of the general population. The exact cause of the illness is an enigma, but several hypotheses about its pathogenesis are advanced. The autoimmune hypothesis proposes an autoimmune attack against melanocytes. Although anti-melanocyte autoantibodies have been demonstrated in vitiligo, recent research casts doubt on their pathogenic role and instead supports the involvement of cell-mediated autoimmune response in the pathobiology of this disorder, which is characterized by increase of suppressor T-cells a

Topical drugs, such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), are available without prescription and are widely used for moderate, acute and chronic painful conditions. However, the different characteristics of their adverse reactions remain largely unknown. The present work was undertaken in order to quantify ADRs reported to our centre with topical drugs during a period of 5 years. The retrospective study was performed using the spontaneous reports to the Midi-Pyrénées Pharmacovigilance Centre from 1993 to 1997. The following routes of administration were selected: cutaneous, ocular
