INTRODUCTION: Extensive hot tar burns are relatively uncommon. Management of these burns provides a significant clinical challenge especially with respect to tar removal involving a large total body surface area (TBSA), without causing further tissue injury.
METHODS: We report a case of an over 40-year old male construction worker who was removing a malfunctioning cap from broken valve. This resulted in tar spraying over the anterior surface of his body including legs, feet, chest, abdomen, arms, face and oral cavity (80% TBSA covered in tar resulting in a 50% TBSA burn injury).

SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA: Major vascular injury is an unusual but life-threatening complication of lumbar disc surgery. If a major vascular injury is unnoticed, the late complications, pseudoaneurysm, may be diagnosed years after primary lumbar disc surgery. Pseudoaneurysm can lead to compression of adjacent neurovascular structures; however, erosion into the adjacent vertebras and presentation with symptoms of nerve root irritation are rare.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Spinal epidural hematoma (SEH) is an uncommon condition that can result in severe neurological problems and needs to be treated as soon as possible. The incidence of traumatic SEH is 0.5 %-1.7 %, but increases to 9 % in patients with rheumatic diseases. Surgical treatment options include open surgery and minimally invasive surgery.
