Mammary hamartomas are typically a benign condition and rarely develop into malignant lesions. Only 14 cases of carcinomas associated with a hamartoma have been documented in the literature. In this case report, we describe a case of invasive ductal carcinoma within a hamartoma in a 72-year-old woman. Mammography, ultrasonography, and magnetic resonance imaging showed the features of a typical hamartoma with a suspicious mass arising in it. This case illustrates the importance of identification of unusual findings in a typical mammary hamartoma on radiologic examinations.

Polymyalgia rheumatica is infrequently the initial manifestation of underlying malignancy. A patient is described with infiltrating ductal carcinoma of the breast presenting with left breast mass and polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR)-like symptoms. Physicians should consider an associated malignancy in PMR when patients present with atypical features such as young age, modest elevation of the sedimentation rate, and incomplete response to corticosteroids.

Ultrasound is becoming an indispensable tool for the surgeon in the diagnosis and treatment of a variety of breast problems. Hands-on ultrasound education for surgeons and the ongoing improvements in imaging technology have made surgeon-performed breast ultrasound an effective method of identifying and diagnosing breast lesions and have increased the surgeon's ability to perform ultrasound-guided interventional procedures. Patients with macromastia often comment on a lack of sensation in their nipple-areola complex. A study was designed to investigate the cause of this decreased sensation. Two hypotheses were proposed. First, the decreased sensation could result from neuropraxia of the sensory nerve fibers secondary to traction caused by the heavy breast parenchyma. The second hypothesis proposed that tissue expansion of the nipple and areola by the voluminous breast parenchyma caused a decrease in nerve fibers per surface area and hence decreased sensory perception.
