Women's perceptions of breast cancer risk and prevention: insights into knowledge gaps and lifestyle attitudes.

BACKGROUND: Breast cancer (BC) is the most common cancer among women. Promoting healthy lifestyle behaviours at the population level has the potential to prevent a substantial proportion of cases. Preventive interventions should be grounded in the target population’s existing beliefs and perceptions. Therefore, this study aimed to explore women’s perceptions of BC, their attitudes toward engaging in preventive behaviours, and their needs for risk information. METHODS: Semi-structured individual interviews were conducted during spring 2025, with 16 Swedish women, aged 24–68. The interview guide

Patient and caregiver knowledge and understanding of acute myeloid leukemia and perceptions of oncologist communication quality.

INTRODUCTION: Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is primarily diagnosed in older adults who rely on caregiver support. Oncologists must communicate complex information to both patients and caregivers. Associations between oncologist communication and patient and caregiver knowledge and understanding remain unknown. METHODS: This cross-sectional secondary analysis utilized data from a pilot randomized decisional intervention trial. We assessed disease knowledge, prognostic understanding, and perceptions of communication quality for patients 60 or older with newly diagnosed AML and their caregivers.

Time, talk, and teamwork: Perceptions of personalised dementia care planning conversations in primary care.

BACKGROUND: Dementia affects over 57 million people worldwide. UK and international policy position personalised, conversation-based care planning as central to post-diagnostic support. However, delivery in primary care is inconsistent, and many practitioners lack dementia-specific communication training. Existing evidence focuses on single roles or settings, leaving a gap in understanding how communication operates across the primary care workforce. AIMS: To identify what helps and hinders effective communication for integrated dementia care planning and determine the support and training ne

The Roles of Place Attachment and Geovisualizations on Hurricane Storm Surge Risk Perceptions and Behavioral Intentions.

We surveyed 1442 coastal residents of Georgia and South Carolina, USA, who are at risk of hurricane storm surge flooding. We explored whether respondents' place attachment-the connection or bond people have with a place-relates to how they perceive different dimensions of hurricane risks and to different intended behaviors. We further explored the effects on risk perceptions and behaviors of experimental geovisualizations designed to depict forecast storm surge flooding with differing scale, dimensionality, and features that give meaning to place. Place attachment was strongly associated with

Community perceptions on climate change and its impacts on malaria transmission in South-eastern Tanzania.

BACKGROUND: Malaria transmission is highly sensitive to climatic variability, as changes in temperatures and rainfall, directly influence mosquito breeding, survival, and parasite development. Extreme climatic events, such as flooding, further exacerbate malaria risk by disrupting access to preventive, diagnostic and treatment services. However, there is limited evidence on how communities in malaria-endemic settings perceive and respond to the health impacts of climate variability and change. This study explored community knowledge, perceptions, and practices related to the relationship betwe

Exploring community perceptions of gender roles as a predisposing factor in schistosomiasis infection in southwestern Uganda.

Schistosomiasis, a neglected tropical disease, affects people of all genders and ages. However, few studies have examined how communities in endemic areas perceive gender roles as factors influencing infection and control. This study explored the perceptions of farming (Kyaterekera) and fishing (Ndaiga) communities along Lake Albert in Uganda's Kagadi District regarding gender roles and their role in schistosomiasis infection. Using an ethnographic design, we conducted 10 key informant interviews and 18 focus group discussions with 150 participants. Data were analysed thematically. Participant

Perceptions and Barriers Regarding Rabies in Cats in the Americas: An Approach From the One Health Perspective.

INTRODUCTION: Rabies in cats is an emerging and underrecognised zoonotic threat across the Americas and is becoming increasingly important as the degree of dog-mediated transmission decreases. Cats increasingly serve as incidental hosts and potential transmission bridges between wildlife reservoirs and humans; however, most national programs still exclude them from systematic surveillance and vaccination. This study explored regional perceptions, knowledge gaps and operational barriers related to rabies among cats from a One Health perspective. METHODS: A bilingual online survey was distribut

Perceptions of a gender-neutral approach to human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination in Cameroon: a qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Cameroon’s Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) introduced the HPV vaccine into the routine immunization schedule in Cameroon in October 2020. However, coverage for this vaccine was just 20% by December 2022, prompting the government to adopt and implement a gender-neutral vaccination (GNV) from January 2023. The goal was to increase acceptance, reduce stigma, and improve vaccine coverage. This study aimed to assess the perceptions of key immunization stakeholders in Cameroon on the GNV approach to HPV vaccination. METHOD: A qualitative study was conducted from June to September
