The Potential Role of 99m Tc-FAPI SPECT/CT in the Staging of Mucinous Appendiceal Adenocarcinoma.

We present a 55‑year‑old woman with adnexal masses and elevated CEA. Malignancy workup, adnexal biopsy, and intraoperative assessment revealed the appendix as the primary site, with pathology confirming mucinous adenocarcinoma. While mucinous tumors often show limited avidity on 18 F‑FDG PET/CT due to low cellularity, this case demonstrates the utility of fibroblast activation protein inhibitor (FAPI) imaging. 99m Tc‑FAPI SPECT/CT successfully identified widespread skeletal metastases, initially detected on bone scan, and extensive soft‑tissue involvement in the peritoneum, appendiceal region,

A population pharmacokinetic approach to compare 51Cr-EDTA and 99 mTc-DTPA clearances in measuring renal glomerular filtration rate in oncopediatrics.

BACKGROUND: 51Cr-EDTA and 99 mTc-DTPA clearances are two reference methods of determining the glomerular filtration rate. The study aimed to compare these two radioisotopic clearance measurements using an original approach based on population pharmacokinetics in oncopediatrics. METHODS: Plasma concentrations of 51Cr-EDTA and 99 mTc-DTPA obtained from, respectively, 40 and 19 children treated with nephrotoxic chemotherapy were simultaneously analyzed while accounting for three covariates (i.e., serum creatinine, plasma cystatin C, body weight) previously described as being related to the pedia

Stepwise Approach for Parathyroid Localisation in Primary Hyperparathyroidism.

INTRODUCTION: Primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) is a relatively common condition in surgical practice. Availability of localisation studies has shifted the treatment from bilateral neck exploration to selective parathyroidectomy. Several imaging modalities, each with varying sensitivities, are available to detect abnormal parathyroid glands. Ultrasound is almost universally accepted as the first line radiological investigation however its sensitivity is particularly heterogeneous and operator-dependent. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We studied 250 consecutive patients with PHPT who underwent parathy

Assessment of relative uptake by mandibular condyles in a "normal" population.

Hyperplasia of the mandibular condyle is self-limiting, but can lead to facial asymmetry, malocclusion, pain, and dysfunction of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). Bone scintigraphy, particularly with single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), is effective in assessing relative condylar uptake, but we know of no standardised methods or values. Our aim, therefore was to validate the values currently used to measure relative condylar uptake in our population. Between December 2015 and June 2018 44 patients had skull SPECT (15 male and 29 female patients, whose ages ranged from 4-33 year

Preoperative imaging for parathyroid localization in patients with concurrent thyroid disease: A systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Thyroid disease occurs more frequently in patients with hyperparathyroidism than the general population and hinders parathyroid localization. Identifying thyroid pathology before operating improves management and avoids the risks of reoperation in the neck. This review assesses imaging studies in patients with hyperparathyroidism and thyroid pathology to identify the ideal imaging methodology for patients with multigland disease. METHODS: Systematic review of original articles reporting sensitivity or positive predictive value (PPV) for one or more imaging modalities in patients w

Negative Sestamibi Scans Predict Lower Likelihood of Surgical Referral in Patients with Primary Hyperparathyroidism.

99mTechnetium sestamibi scans (MIBI) can provide negative or inaccurate results in patients with biochemical primary hyperparathyroidism. Reliance on MIBI as a diagnostic modality rather than as a localization tool leads to misdiagnosis and inappropriate care. The aim of this study was to determine the impact of negative MIBI scans on referral patterns and surgical intervention. Adults with MIBI scans at our institution from January 1, 2011, to May 31, 2017, were retrospectively reviewed. Data collected include demographics, study date and results, ordering physician specialty, pre/postoperati…
