[Investigation of the prevalence of Trichomonas vaginalis among female Syrian refugees with the complaints of vaginitis aged between 15-49 years].

Since the Syrian civil war began in 2011, most of the Syrian refugees have immigrated to Turkey due to its open gate policy and the width of the border. By the end of 2015, it was estimated that there were 2.5 million Syrian refugees in Turkey. Many of the Syrian refugees live in Sanliurfa due to its location on the border with Syria. Trichomonas vaginalis, apart from viral agents is the most common parasite among sexually transmitted infection agents. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of T.vaginalis among female married Syrian refugees living outside of the camps in Sanliu

Major extended hepatic resections in diseased livers using hypothermic protection: preliminary results from the first 12 patients treated with this new technique.

BACKGROUND: Hepatic vascular exclusion allows the performance of major hepatic resections with minimal intraoperative blood loss. We have previously shown that normothermic ischemia can be tolerated by a healthy liver for up to 90 minutes, and this period is increased to 4 hours if the liver is cooled to 4 degrees C using University of Wisconsin solution. STUDY DESIGN: This study assessed whether these techniques could be successfully applied for patients requiring resection of a diseased liver, which is more sensitive to ischemic damage. Between July 1990 and May 1994, 12 patients (6 men, 6

Using machine learning to evaluate a non-selective enhanced recovery pathway for hip and knee arthroplasty: perioperative factors associated with same-day and early discharge.

INTRODUCTION: Same-day and early discharge after total hip and knee arthroplasty (THA/TKA) depend not only on patient characteristics but on the perioperative pathway itself. This study used supervised machine learning (ML) to evaluate a universal, non-selective enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) pathway at a high-volume tertiary centre, identifying the perioperative factors most strongly associated with failure of Day 0 or Day 1 discharge, and of same-day (Day 0) discharge. METHODS: All patients undergoing primary THA, TKA, or partial knee replacement (PKR) within a universal, non-select

The mediating role of psychological resilience in the relationship between attitudes toward sport and life satisfaction.

OBJECTIVE: This study examined the association between attitudes toward sport and life satisfaction among university students and tested whether psychological resilience statistically mediated this association. METHOD: This cross-sectional, relational survey was conducted with 481 undergraduate students enrolled at two universities in Türkiye. Data were collected using the Attitudes Toward Sport Scale, the Life Satisfaction Scale, and the Psychological Resilience Scale-Short Form. The hypothesized indirect association was tested using Hayes' regression-based PROCESS Macro (Model 4). The stati

Cognitive and existential-motivational pathways from empathy to prosocial behavior: a parallel mediation study in a Chinese university sample.

OBJECTIVE: This study examined a parallel mediation model in which empathy was hypothesized to be associated with prosocial behavior through two theoretically distinct pathways: a capability-oriented pathway via self-efficacy and an existential-motivational pathway via meaning in life, among Chinese university students. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was conducted with 1,549 university students (M age = 19.47 years, SD = 1.05, range 18-23; 71.7% female). Participants completed validated Chinese-language measures of empathy, self-efficacy, meaning in life, and prosocial behavior. Parallel m

Short Sickness Absenteeism Rate in a Large Tertiary Hospital: The Role of Fitness for Work and Influenza Vaccination.

Background: Sickness absenteeism has long been an organizational problem due to the consequent loss of productivity (1-2% of gross domestic product in European Union countries) and job overload for workers. We designed and conducted an observational cohort study to describe and analyze the short sickness events and their derived absence days in a large university tertiary hospital, also incorporating the fit for work assessment and the anti-influenza vaccination coverage. Materials and Methods: The anonymous data of workers with at least one day of certified presence during the period 1 Januar

Khat chewing, poly-substance use, and lower urinary tract symptoms: a cross-sectional analysis among Yemeni medical university students.

BACKGROUND: Khat (Catha edulis) chewing is highly prevalent in Yemen, but its potential urological effects are poorly characterized. The pharmacological action of its alkaloids on alpha-adrenergic receptors suggests a plausible link to voiding dysfunction. This study explored the association between khat chewing patterns, concurrent stimulant use, and lower urinary tract symptom (LUTS) severity. METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, 112 medical and paramedical university students from seven Yemeni governorates completed a structured digital questionnaire being recruited via convenience samp

Bayesian randomised controlled trial of guided parent-delivered cognitive behavioural therapy for children with anxiety disorders via remote sessions in Japan: a study protocol.

INTRODUCTION: Guided parent-delivered cognitive behavioural therapy (GPD-CBT) is an evidence-based, low-burden treatment programme for childhood anxiety disorders with demonstrated efficacy, cost-effectiveness and accessibility. However, it has been tested primarily in Western countries, and the efficacy and cost-effectiveness have not been evaluated in Japanese families. The current study aims to examine GPD-CBT's efficacy and cost-effectiveness in Japanese samples and explore potential cultural adaptations of the programme. METHOD AND ANALYSIS: This study is designed as a Bayesian single-bl

Effect of simulation-based human factors training among emergency medicine healthcare providers on paediatric airway management: a study protocol for a quasi-experimental pre-post study at a tertiary healthcare centre in Karachi, Pakistan.

INTRODUCTION: Up to 40% of major complications during airway management result from human factors. Through human factors such as planning, effective communication, strong leadership and clear role allocation within the team, smooth airway securement can be facilitated and the risk of complications reduced. Simulation-based teaching provides real-time situations and allows healthcare workers and learners to identify, refine and improve their technical and non-technical skills. This study aims to evaluate the effect of simulation-based human factors training on airway management among healthcare

"We learn while doing": informal training experiences of critical care nurses managing dialysis technologies in intensive care units.

BACKGROUND: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is among the most prevalent life-threatening complications in intensive care units (ICUs), with continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) being the primary mode of renal support for haemodynamically unstable patients. Despite the technical complexity of CRRT, formal training programmes for ICU nurses remain inconsistent across healthcare settings. This study explored the informal training experiences of critical care nurses managing dialysis-dependent patients in Al-Ahsa, Saudi Arabia. METHODS: A qualitative descriptive design was employed, guided by re

Seizure Clusters: Current Concepts in Definition and Treatment.

Seizure clusters (SCs) are an acute and transient increase in seizure frequency relative to an individual patient's baseline and are associated with an increased risk of injury, morbidity, and potentially mortality if not promptly and adequately treated. Despite their clinical importance, the management of SCs remains highly heterogeneous, primarily due to the absence of a universally accepted definition, which is determined also by the wide variability in seizure semiology and baseline individual burden;, as well as by differences in care settings. Outpatient treatment relies largely on careg
