Serum concentrations of IgG, IgA, and IgM in humans were measured in the latex agglutination test (LAT) with specific latex diagnostic agents. The results of immunoglobulin measurements by Mancini's method and LAT were in good correlation.

A commercially available slide agglutination test (SAT) for the diagnosis of human leptospirosis was evaluated by comparing it to an immunoglobulin M (IgM) enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and to the microscopic agglutination test (MAT). We developed and evaluated a user-friendly latex agglutination assay for the serodiagnosis of human brucellosis. The assay was obtained by coating colored latex beads with Brucella lipopolysaccharides and drying of the activated beads onto white agglutination cards. A simple procedure was developed to defect infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis by detecting its antigens in the urine. Prolonged higher urinary antigen titers after tuberculin are suggestive of its great effect on the child. The fact that Mycobacterium antigen titers are equal in BCG-vaccinated children with positive and negative Mantoux tests proposes to change the approach to substantiating revaccinations.

From March to April 1992, 200 culled chickens sent to an abattoir in Tokyo, Japan were examined for the presence of growth agglutinating antibody in the serum. In the serological survey, 11 (5.5%) of 200 chicken sera had high growth agglutination titres against Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae, ranging from 1:16 to 1:128. These findings indicate a high rate of erysipelas infection among chickens in the field.

A rapid semi-quantitative latex agglutination test (LAT) has been standardized for the detection of leptospiral antibodies in serum samples of man and animals. The efficacy of the LAT was compared with the plate enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). We have developed an automated latex agglutination test for Treponema pallidum (TPLA) for measurement of the concentration of treponemal antibodies in syphilitic sera. The assay needs neither a complicated pretreatment of the sera nor special techniques. Intra- and interassay precision studies showed high reproducibility. Recent publicity concerning congenital toxoplasmosis has generated a demand for serological assessment of pregnant women. Many laboratories are requested to undertake primary screening in these cases. We assessed the latex agglutination test (LAT) findings in 158 specimens with detectable toxoplasma specific IgM derived from pregnant women. The sensitivity and reliability of a formalised leptospiral antigen battery was compared with a smaller battery of live leptospiral antigens with 152 human sera positive for leptospirosis.
