Multiple long-bone fractures, particularly bilateral fractures, are of moderate specificity for inflicted injury (physical abuse) in infants and young children. Bilateral healing fractures of the fibulae are rare and, depending on age, raise the suspicion of inflicted injury. Intrathecal baclofen (ITB) infusion has been shown to be an effective treatment for spasticity secondary to both cerebral palsy and spinal cord injury. OBJECTIVE: Provincial air ambulance transports of injured patients were quality reviewed prospectively to determine utilization and appropriateness of care.
METHODS: All trauma air ambulance transports over a 2-month span were reviewed prospectively. Revised Trauma Score, Injury Severity Score, probability of survival, prehospital time, distance of transport, procedures performed, and outcome were determined. Atypical pneumonias are caused by mycoplasma, chlamydia and legionella species. From a clinical point of view the disease is comparable to influenza-like infections. Macrolide antibiotics covered the species which are most important. Especially new macrolides displayed better pharmacokinetic properties, allowing dose reduction and reduced frequency of intake. For legionella infections also therapy with modern quinolones is possible.

In the first year after establishing a gastroenterological center in a vineyard and industrial district with 220.000 inhabitants we examined 1.171 patients.
