Long-term follow-up findings after argon laser trabeculoplasty are communicated. The coagulation technique employed was that described by Wise and Witter (1979). The circumference of the chamber angle was coagulated over 360 degrees. The indications were chronic open-angle glaucoma, pseudoexfoliation glaucoma, pigmentdispersion glaucoma, glaucoma in aphakia, and glaucoma after ALT or fistulizing surgery with uncontrolled IOP. A patient with diabetic retinopathy and senile anterior cortical and nuclear cataract was treated with argon laser photocoagulation of the fundus. Twenty-nine rhegmatogenous retinal detachments were treated in 29 patients by argon laser photocoagulation ("damming" technique) between 10-1-77 and 06-30-81. Mean follow up time has been 19.1 months, and retinal detachments have remained perfectly contained in 28 patients without any subsequent macular problem. An accurate potential energy model, explicitly designed for studying scattering and treating the spin-orbit and nonadiabatic couplings on an equal footing, is proposed for the S + Ar system. The model is based on the Effective Relativistic Coupling by Asymptotic Representation (ERCAR) approach, building the geometry dependence of the spin-orbit interaction via a diabatisation scheme. Tonsil remnants are a problematic outcome in a subset of patients undergoing tonsillectomy. Treatment options are rarely discussed in the literature. This is the first description of the use of argon plasma coagulation (APC) in this setting. APC is based on the principle of ionised argon gas creating a conductive plasma between an activating electrode and a tissue surface. We describe the usability and clinical efficacy of this modality in a group of six patients.

The effectiveness of argon laser trabeculoplasty in managing the primary open-angle glaucoma was observed in 103 patients (202 eyes) in period of 3 years. The authors are confirming its good effects, the maximum of it in three months after the trabeculoplasty. Twenty-seven patients with glaucoma, which could not be controlled with maximum tolerable medication and standard laser techniques, underwent transpupillary argon laser cyclophotocoagulation. Only six patients (22.3%) had a successful outcome, and the postoperative course in many cases was complicated by an additional, sustained increase in intraocular pressure. Notwithstanding these results, the procedure may be useful occasionally to preclude the need for conventional glaucoma surgery.

Pathophysiology and clinical usage of the argon laser is reviewed. The powerful blue-green light produces tissue ablation and photocoagulation. Vascular lesions such as hemangiomas and telangiectasias are easily blanched as are inflammatory lesions. Decorative tattoos and other miscellaneous pigmented lesions can be effectively lightened or eliminated by the argon laser.

It has been proven that intense argon laser light is very useful in the treatment of port-wine hemangiomas and tattoos. However, lasers can successfully treat many other benign cutaneous lesions. This article reports the first use of the argon laser for granuloma faciale and hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia. In addition, we have also successfully treated venous lakes, senile angiomas, pyogenic granulomas, acne rosacea, and nevus of Ota.
