Congenital atlantoaxial fusion. A case report.

An adult patient, after a minor fall, had a painful neck, and roentgenograms of the affected area showed a separate odontoid with the remnant fused to the anterior ring of the atlas. The multiple nature of the anomalies, coupled with the lack of significant trauma, indicated that the finding was that of congenital atlantoaxial fusion.

Morphological and morphometric features of the deformed cervical and caudal vertebrae in a new mutant knotty-tail (knt/knt) mouse.

Morphological and morphometric examinations were conducted on skeletons of knotty-tail (knt/knt) mouse, a new autosomal recessive mutant. The knt/knt mice have short and knotty tails. The number of caudal vertebrae is reduced and their deformed caudal vertebrae show no parallelism between the epiphyseal planes and no osseous fusions. Morphological changes, except for the caudal vertebrae, are confined to the neural arches of the axis in knt/knt mice. As for the tail anomaly, the knt gene seems to have the same action as the tk gene, but knt/knt mice differ from other strains with respect to ce

[Four cases of hangman's fracture].

Four cases of hangman's fracture were reported. The cases were disturbed between 67 and 85 years of age and all were males. The exact mechanisms of injuries of these cases were not precisely documented, but all struck the head by falling for some distance. Three of them showed cerebral concussion immediately after injuries. One of four patients had complete transverse cord lesion at C5 level and the other showed right Brown-Séquard syndrome at C4 level, while another two showed no neurological deficits except for neck pain. Radiological findings disclosed fracture of the pedicles or the lamina

A Rare Case of Primary Hyperparathyroidism Presenting as a C2 Brown Tumor-Plain Radiography Has yet again Proved Indispensable in Clinching the Diagnosis.

A brown tumor is one of the manifestations of hyperparathyroidism. It is a rare type of bone lesion that most often occurs in mandible, ribs, and large bones. Spinal involvement is extremely rare. We report an unusual case of a brown tumor of the axis vertebra in a 33-year-old male who presented to the orthopaedic clinic with posttraumatic C2 vertebra fracture and myelopathy. To plan further fixation and stabilization of C2 fracture, the patient underwent a plain radiograph and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the cervical spine. The available routine chest radiograph at the time of MRI rep

[Pseudoluxation C2-C3 in childhood].

Cervical spine injury is rare in children. It is seen primarily in those who sustain significant, severe blunt trauma, occurring in 1 to 2 percent of such cases. The interpretation of cervical spine radiographs and the clinical examination in children may be difficult. The objective of this case clinic is to report on a physiological radiographic finding of the cervical spine in childhood that trends to be misjudged as pathologic: C2-C3 pseudosubluxation. We presented a boy, aged 5 years, who came to our Traumatic pediatric emergency center for cervical pain after falling from a height. In late

Reliability and reproducibility of subaxial cervical injury description system: a standardized nomenclature schema.

STUDY DESIGN: Radiographic measurement study. OBJECTIVE: To develop a standardized cervical injury nomenclature system to facilitate description, communication, and classification among health care providers. The reliability and reproducibility of this system was then examined. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA: Description of subaxial cervical injuries is critical for treatment decision making and comparing scientific reports of outcomes. Despite a number of available classification systems, surgeons, and researchers continue to use descriptive nomenclature, such as "burst" and "teardrop" fracture

[Effects of tuina manipulation on the three-dimensional space of cervical vertebral segments of cervical spondylosis patients].

OBJECTIVE: To study the mechanisms of tuina manipulation for treating the dislocation of bone in cervical spondylosis (CS) patients by observing the effects of tuina manipulation on the three-dimensional (3D) angles. METHODS: From August to December 2009 20 CS patients were assigned to Group 1 (10 cases, treated with relaxing manipulation) and Group 2 (10 cases, treated with relaxing manipulation and joint regulation). Besides, 10 healthy subjects were recruited as the normal group (treated with relaxing manipulation). Before and after manipulation intervention, all of them were scanned from
