Controlled Release and Antibacterial Performance of Terpinen-4-ol/β-CD Liquid Bandages.

Liquid bandages are employed as initial therapeutic interventions to protect wounds from environmental contaminants and reduce infection risk. Terpinen-4-ol (T-4-ol) exhibits significant antibacterial potential and promotes wound healing; however, its physicochemical properties impose limitations on its practical applications. These limitations were addressed herein by developing inclusion complexes of T-4-ol with β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) based on noncovalent interactions, referred to as T-4-ol/β-CDs. Furthermore, an advanced PVA/PAA-based liquid bandage incorporating T-4-ol/β-CD was developed he…

Comparing the effectiveness of elastic bandages and shrinker socks for lower extremity amputees.

Twelve patients with below-knee amputations were assigned one of two methods for wrapping the residual limb: elastic bandaging and elastic shrinker socks. The limbs were measured over a period of four weeks to compare volumetric change. The results indicate the elastic shrinker sock to be more effective in decreasing residual limb volume.

Can distal radius torus fractures be treated safely and effectively with elastic bandages?

This study aimed to investigate whether distal radius torus fractures can be treated safely, effectively, and more cost-efficiently using a nonrigid immobilization method such as elastic bandages, instead of traditional rigid fixation like casting. A total of 366 patients aged between 4 and 15 years who presented to the orthopedics and traumatology clinic within 36 h of injury because of a distal radius torus fracture were included in the study. Patients were treated with either an elastic bandage or a short arm splint. They were followed up at scheduled clinical intervals. During follow-up, d…

Necrotising fasciitis due to Absidia corymbifera in wounds dressed with non sterile bandages.

We present three cases of Absidia corymbifera necrotising fasciitis presenting to our centre within 1 month of each other. All patients had wound dressings with non sterile crepe bandages at peripheral centres. One patient was lost to follow-up, another improved on timely antifungal therapy, while the last patient succumbed to disseminated infection. We propose that traumatic and deep wounds be dressed with sterile roller bandages to prevent outbreaks of wound zygomycosis.

Imino-quaternized chitosan/chitosan nanofibers loaded with norfloxacin as potential bandages for wound healing.

Due to the critical need for effective wound dressings for the management of burn injuries, this paper focuses on addressing key gaps in infection prevention and control. The study aims to develop advanced nanofibrous dressings based on quaternized chitosan/chitosan, loaded with norfloxacin and modified with 2-formylphenylboronic acid to enhance antimicrobial and antioxidant activity and promote healing. The materials combine beneficial properties of chitosan/quaternized chitosan, such as biocompatibility, biodegradability, and antimicrobial activity. The characterization was performed from st

Inelastic leg compression is more effective to reduce deep venous refluxes than elastic bandages.

BACKGROUND: Deep venous refluxes play an important triggering role for the development of venous leg ulcers. Compression therapy is able to reduce these refluxes depending on pressure and the kind of material being used. OBJECTIVE: To compare the efficacy of compression bandages of varying pressure and material (elastic, long-stretch versus inelastic, short-stretch bandages, four-layer bandages). METHODS: Venous volume (VV) and venous filling index (VFI) as a quantitative parameter of venous reflux were measured using an airplethysmograph (APG) in a total of 21 patients presenting with venou…

Antiseptic chitosan bandage for preventing topical skin infections.

Infections on the wound surface are the major problem in restricting the healing process. To reduce the transmission and treat the infection, we have developed 0.05% and 0.1% octenidine dihydrochloride (Ocd) incorporated chitosan (Cs) based flexible bandages. Ocd is extensively used skin antiseptic for its mode of action over a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity. The prepared antiseptic Cs-Ocd bandage was characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). In addition, swelling, degradation, cytocompability, antibacterial, and anti-…

A Novel Peptide Hydrogel for an Antimicrobial Bandage Contact Lens.

A peptide hydrogel with an antimicrobial activity is developed as a bandage contact lens. The antimicrobial activity is enhanced with the addition of the biomolecules penicillin G or poly-ε-lysine and is positive against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. The lens is also noncytotoxic toward a human corneal epithelial cell line and as a consequence is of great potential as a drug-eluting bandage lens replacing conventional corneal ulcer treatment.

Radial artery pseudoaneurysm successfully treated by compression bandage.

In children, surgery for radial artery pseudoaneurysm (PA) may be followed by growth retardation of the hand because of inadequate blood flow. We believe this is the first report of a child with PA of the radial artery cured by compression bandage. Conservative management is a safe and valuable initial treatment option for uncomplicated radial PA.

Clinical effects of elastic bandage on neurogenic orthostatic hypotension.

Neurogenic orthostatic hypotension (OH) often causes troublesome symptoms such as dizziness, syncope and falling, interfering active daily life or various therapies in rehabilitation. Nonpharmacologic measures for treating patients with OH include wearing elastic leotard, head-up tilting at night, etc. Elastic garment or antigravity suits is certainly effective, but it may be uncomfortable and not practical. Although elastic bandage (EB) bound on the lower limbs has been thought to be useful, there is few clinical report about its beneficial evidence. We investigated short-term clinical effect
