Flavonoids are a class of natural polyphenolic compounds sharing a common 2-phenyl-3,4-dihydro-2H-1-benzopyran (flavan) backbone. Typically known for their antioxidant activity, flavonoids are also being investigated regarding antitumour and antimicrobial properties. Several thiosemicarbazones (7 and 8), 1,3-thiazolidin-4-ones (9, 10, 13, 14) and 2-thioxo-1,3-imidazolidin-4-ones (11) have been prepared starting from 8-bromo-7-hydroxy-5-methoxy-2-methyl-4-oxo-4H-1-benzopyran-6-carbaldehyde (3) and its 4-thio analogue (4). The anticonvulsant activity of all of the synthesized compounds was evaluated against maximal electrical shock (MES) and subcutaneous pentylenetetrazole (scPTZ) induced seizures. The neurotoxicity was assessed using the rota-rod test. Some of the tested compounds displayed potent anticonvulsant activity in the scPTZ test.

A series of pyrimidine-containing 4H-chromen-4-one derivatives were designed and synthesized by combining bioactive substructures. Preliminary biological activity results showed that most of the compounds displayed significant inhibitory activities in vitro against Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. In the course of continuing research for finding bioactive compounds from Indonesian plants, the leaves of Artocarpus communis was extracted by ethanol. This extract partitioned with n-hexane-water (1:4) and then water extract was partitioned with dichloromethane. The purpose of this study was to determine the frequency of responses to selected fragrance materials in patients who were fragrance sensitive. 178 patients were evaluated in 8 centers worldwide with a fragrance mix (FM) and 20 other fragrance materials. The stem bark of Cassia sieberiana was extracted with methanol and the methanol extract partitioned with chloroform.
