Mammography is the primary screening method for breast cancers. However, the sensitivity of mammographic screening is lower for dense breasts, which are an independent risk factor for breast cancers. Automated breast ultrasound (ABUS) is used as an adjunct to mammography for screening breast cancers in asymptomatic women with dense breasts. Isolated secondary breast tuberculosis (TB) is an uncommon entity. This is a case report of a 27-year-old female who presented with a tumour in the breast. Nodular fasciitis is a benign proliferative lesion that is usually found in the soft tissue of the upper extremity and trunk in young to middle-aged persons. Pyoderma gangrenosum may occur in unusual sites and not be readily recognized. Delays in diagnosis and appropriate treatment may result in extensive ulcerations and scarring. We present two patients with pyoderma gangrenosum involving the breasts after breast operation. Delays in diagnosis resulted in extensive ulcerations and scarring of the breasts.

In a move to reduce the number of deaths from breast cancer there was a shift in emphasis in 1991 away from breast self-examination to breast awareness. This article takes a close look at the background to this shift, the conflicting messages with regards to breast awareness, and the need to re-educate and empower nurses and other health professionals with the knowledge and confidence to teach the public about these issues. Breast Cancer Care plays a vital role in networking with nurses, other health professionals and the public to clarify the breast awareness message.

PURPOSE: Between 1979 and 1987, 76 women with 77 ductal carcinomas in-situ of the breast were evaluated by The Radiation Oncology Center after breast conservation surgery.

No currently available evidence from breast cancer screening studies provides strong justification for the implementation of screening in elderly females. Because it is an absence of evidence rather than negative evidence which pertains, it is concluded that if screening is introduced it should include both mammography and clinical examination of the breasts because the two complement one another. OBJECTIVE: To study the occurrence of breast cancer in women with breast cysts.
DESIGN: Prospective follow-up study.
SETTING: Office surgical practice.
PATIENTS: All 742 women referred to the practice with breast cysts diagnosed by means of aspiration or, occasionally, biopsy between 1969 and 1985.

Historically, women taking antithyroid drugs generally have not been permitted to breast-feed. However, recent studies suggest that infants exposed to the small amounts of antithyroid drugs in breast milk experience no change in thyroid function. Propylthiouracil is the drug of choice in this situation, since it does not cross membranes readily, and milk concentrations are therefore quite low. However, methimazole in low dosages might be used if the infant's thyroid status was monitored at frequent intervals.

127 breast scans were performed on 83 female patients using technetium-99m diphosphonate. 46 out of 48 patients with breast cancer had positive breast scans manifested by a focal increased uptake in 37 patients and a diffuse increased uptake in the remaining 9 patients. Benign breast lesions such as fibrocystic disease, fibroadenoma and fat necrosis may also concentrate the radioactive agent in a focal or a diffuse pattern. So breast scanning is a sensitive though nonspecific modality to detect malignant breast lesions and it is worthwhile performing it on all women referred for bone scan.
