BACKGROUND: Childhood asthma is a common respiratory disease characterized by airway inflammation. Tumor necrosis factor-α-induced protein 8-like 2 (TIPE2) has been found to be involved in the progression of asthma. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of testosterone (T) on the phenotypic modulation of corpus cavernosum smooth muscle (CCSM) cells in a castrated rat model.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Thirty male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into 3 groups: control, castration, and castration with T supplementation (castration + T). A case of salivary duct carcinoma arising in the submandibular region of an 83-year-old man is presented. Histologically, the tumour consisted of solid cell nests with ductal structures. Tumour cell nests showed central comedonecrosis. Immunohistochemically, the tumour cells were positive for keratin and epithelial membrane antigen but negative for S-100 protein and calponin. Clinical features as well as pathological examinations based on haematoxylin-eosin and immunohistochemical stainings were important in the diagnosis of this case.
