OBJECTIVE: To examine the effect of pre-induction cervical length, parity, gestational age at induction, maternal age and body mass index (BMI) on the possibility of successful delivery in women undergoing induction of labor.
METHODS: In 822 singleton pregnancies, induction of labor was carried out at 35 to 42(+6) weeks of gestation. The cervical length was measured by transvaginal sonography before induction. The effect of cervical length, parity, gestational age, maternal age and BMI on the interval between induction and vaginal delivery within 24 hours was investigated using Cox's proporti

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the role of transvaginal and transabdominal cervical length (CL) measurements at 37 weeks of gestation in predicting the risk of prolonged pregnancy among nulliparous women.
METHODS: A retrospective cohort study was conducted between February 2022 and June 2024 at a regional tertiary maternity hospital. Transvaginal (TVS) and transabdominal sonography (TAS) were performed in low-risk nulliparous patients at 37 weeks of gestation. Patients were categorized into two groups based on delivery time: <41 weeks (term) and ≥41 weeks (late-term). Demographic, obstetric, and ultr

Multiple Cervical Length (CL) measurements are typically acquired throughout the course of twin pregnancy to detect the early stages of labour and identify pregnancies at a high risk of preterm delivery. This study uses Machine-Learning (ML) approaches to determine the optimal timing of repeated CL measurements when used for predicting spontaneous preterm birth (sPTB) in twin pregnancies. Serial CL measurements from ultrasounds performed between 16 and 28 weeks of gestation were retrospectively acquired from 2,095 patients carrying twin pregnancies. These measurements were used for creating se

BACKGROUND: Placenta accreta spectrum often leads to massive hemorrhage and even maternal shock and death. This study aims to identify whether cervical length and cervical area measured by magnetic resonance imaging correlate with massive hemorrhage in patients with placenta accreta spectrum.
METHODS: The study was conducted at our hospital, and 158 placenta previa patients with placenta accreta spectrum underwent preoperative magnetic resonance imaging examination were included. The cervical length and cervical area were measured and evaluated their ability to identify massive hemorrhage in

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the value of serial post-cerclage cervical length measurements in predicting preterm birth.
METHODS: This was a retrospective study of women with a singleton pregnancy who underwent prophylactic transvaginal cerclage from 2017 to 2023. Prophylactic cerclage was performed in women with an obstetric history of cervical insufficiency. After cerclage, all participants underwent routine transvaginal cervical measurement every 2-4 weeks until 32-34 weeks of gestation. Trajectory patterns of changes in cervical length were identified through latent class trajectory modeling. T…

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the performance of cervical phosphorylated insulin-like growth factor binding protein-1 (phIGFBP-1) testing and cervical length measurement separately and in combination with physician's clinical judgment in prediction of preterm birth among patients with self-reported uterine contractions and intact membranes.
DESIGN: We enrolled a total of 246 women between 22 and 34 weeks of gestation.
METHODS: The initial evaluation included cervical length measurement using transvaginal ultrasonography. Short cervix was defined as <25 mm. A swab sample was obtained from the cervi…

OBJECTIVES: To assess transvaginal (TV) and transabdominal (TA) cervical length (CL) measurements' variability and patient factors associated with TA CL accuracy. We hypothesized that patient factors would affect the accuracy of TA CL.
METHODS: This was a prospective cohort study. During anatomy ultrasound, TA and TV CL measurements were obtained, distance from placental edge to internal cervical os assessed, and demographic questionnaires completed. Patients between 18 to 22 weeks and 6 days were included and those <18 year old or with a twin gestation were excluded. TA CL >0.5 cm different

OBJECTIVE: While cervical length (CL) provides an effective screening tool for spontaneous preterm birth in singletons, the performance in twins is still controversial. Our aim was twofold. First, to compare the performance of a single CL measurement at mid-gestation (∼20 weeks) versus serial measurements as a predictor of spontaneous preterm birth < 34 weeks in uncomplicated twin pregnancies. Second, to describe the performance of a single CL at ∼24, ∼28 and ∼32 weeks.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: cohort study of twins followed at Hospital Italiano de Buenos Aires from 2013 to 2017. Inclusion crite

INTRODUCTION: Our objectives were to compare the single-line and two-line methods of cervical length measurement in the first trimester of pregnancy and to evaluate the potential value of the first trimester cervical length measured by the two methods in predicting spontaneous preterm birth.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: This was a prospective study in singleton pregnancies at 11+0 to 13+6 weeks of gestation. Cervical length was measured by two methods: (i) a linear distance between the two ends of the glandular area around the endocervical canal (single-line method) and (ii) a sum of a linear dista…

OBJECTIVES: To develop a model for the prediction of short cervix ( ≤ 15 mm) at 20-24 weeks by combining maternal history and transvaginal ultrasonographic measurement of cervical length at 11-14 weeks. To explore the value of an additional ultrasound examination of the cervix at about 17 weeks.
METHODS: Longitudinal prospective study in 800 unselected pregnant women presenting for first-trimester ultrasound assessment by nuchal translucency and serum biochemistry. Cervical length was evaluated transvaginally between 11 weeks and 13 weeks and 6 days (cx1), at 16-19 weeks (cx2) and 20-24 weeks

BACKGROUND Spontaneous preterm birth is a major cause of neonatal morbidity and mortality, yet predicting it in women who are asymptomatic and at low risk is challenging. Cervical length (CL) has limited sensitivity. Shear wave elastography (SWE) quantifies tissue stiffness and may capture premature cervical remodeling. This study aimed to combine SWE parameters with CL to predict spontaneous preterm birth. MATERIAL AND METHODS We retrospectively analyzed 100 asymptomatic women with low risk of preterm birth (singleton, 18-24 weeks) undergoing routine transvaginal ultrasound. The primary outco

OBJECTIVES: To review the literature on cervical length as a predictor of preterm birth in asymptomatic women with a multiple pregnancy.
ME … he absence of effective preventive strategies, there is currently no place in clinical practice for cervical length measurement in this population. However, future studies should evaluate preventive interventions in women with multiple pregnancies and a short cervix, and cervical length should be measured in any trial studying preventive strategies in multiple pregnancies.

OBJECTIVES: To verify the relation between pregnancy duration and cervical length (CL) at 22-24 wks of spontaneous and IVF singleton gestations and to assess its predictive value for preterm delivery (< 37 wks).
MATERIAL & METHODS: CL at 22-24 wks was performed according to FMF recommendations in 344 women who conceived spontaneously and in 107 IVF singleton pregnancies. The results of CL in both groups were divided into subgroups: ≤ 29 mm, 30-34 mm; 35-39 mm; 40-44 mm; 45-49 mm and ≥ 50 mm. They were subsequently correlated with mean durations of gestation within subgroups and parameters of
