CASE REPORT: A 33 year-old female with an asymptomatic pigmented mass in the iridocorneal angle of her right eye, arising from the ciliary body is presented. Ciliary body melanocytoma was suspected and conservative management recommended. After 36 months of follow-up the patient developed pain, inflammatory reaction and uncontrollable ocular hypertension, which was diagnosed as melanocytomalytic glaucoma. Tumor was removed by external iridecyclectomy and the histopathologic findings revealed necrotic melanocytoma.

The aging changes in human ciliary body were studied by histological analysis. Thirty four autopsy eyes were fixed in 2.5% formalin and 1.0% glutaraldehyde mixture. Ciliary body explants from 30 human eyes were maintained in organ culture up to 14 days. The age of the donors ranged from 45 to 85 years, the post mortem time from 4 to 22 hours. The ciliary epithelium as well as the underlying stroma were studied light- and electronmicroscopically before incubation and after 1, 3, 5, 7 and 14 days of culture. A patient who developed intravitreal ciliary body neovascularization following cyclocryotherapy for neovascular glaucoma is presented. Presenting vitreous hemorrhage limited her visual acuity to 20/200. After panretinal photocoagulation, the intravitreal ciliary body neovascularization regressed, the vitreous hemorrhage cleared, and the patient's visual acuity was 20/30. The possible pathogenesis of intravitreal ciliary body neovascularization is reviewed, and the reason for regression of the neovascular tissue is hypothesized.

A 23-year-old white woman presented with a pigmented ciliary body mass in the left eye. The tumor appeared to transilluminate when observed with indirect illumination. Clinically the tumor was considered to represent either a malignant melanoma or a cyst and was excised by iridocyclectomy. Electron microscopic examination established the smooth muscle nature of the tumor. The literature on this unusual tumor is reviewed. Furthermore, this report serves to emphasize the value of iridocyclectomy in the diagnosis and treatment of ciliary body tumors.

53 cases of choroidal and ciliary body melanomas have been followed for a minimum of 5 years. 26 patients had enucleation after an initial period of observation, mainly because of growth. Survival rates of these patients compared to other series treated by initial enucleation are unaffected. Small melanomas which did not grow did not cause death in this series. The results of this series thus far indicate that patient survival is not jeopardized by initial observation and that useful vision is preserved for many patients.

A 56-year-old man with a history of hereditary multiple exostoses and secondary low-grade chondrosarcomas was diagnosed with a pigmented mass in his left eye involving the inferonasal ciliary body and peripheral choroid following a superotemporal visual field defect. PURPOSE: Ciliary body mesectodermal leiomyoma is a rare, benign smooth muscle tumor that typically presents in women in the second to fourth decade of life. The diagnosis is typically based on clinical color, funduscopic appearance, transillumination properties, and B-scan ultrasonography.
METHODS: We present a patient with a 360° ciliary body mass with transillumination and ultrasonographic properties consistent with a ring melanoma.
RESULTS: This case emphasizes the difficulty in differentiating the benign leiomyoma from similar appearing malignant tumors such as melanoma.

PURPOSE: To report a rare case of angioleiomyoma of the ciliary body
METHODS: The clinical manifestation, imaging findings, histopathologic characteristics were analyzed in a 32-year-old male patient with angioleiomyoma of the ciliary body.
RESULTS: The tumor was removed intact with local resection. Histopathologic examination revealed that the tumor was full of vessels and it was composed of spindle cells with abundant cytoplasm. Immunohistochemical studies showed positive for SMA and Desmin and negative for S100 and HMB-45.

Medulloepitheliomas are usually amelanotic. Pigmented medulloepitheliomas are unusual and only two cases have been reported. We report an additional case of pigmented malignant medulloepithelioma of the ciliary body with histopathologic correlation.

Over the past few years, the use of mitomycin C (MMC) to reduce surgical failures following filtering procedures has largely increased. After topical application, significant amounts of MMC can be detected intraocularly.
