Multidisciplinary approach for the closure of multiple diastemata with composite resin.

Morphologic anterior tooth alterations and diastemata between the anterior teeth are often considered a major esthetic problem. In most cases, the treatment of these conditions involves a multidisciplinary approach. Orthodontic treatment together with direct composite resin veneers are a viable option to close diastemata and alter tooth shape. The extent and etiology of the diastemata must be considered and properly evaluated for the treatment. The present article is a case report of a patient with multiple diastemata in the maxillary anterior teeth, dental crowding, and peg-shaped lateral inc

Effect of pre-heating resin composite on restoration microleakage.

Improving the adaptation of resin composites during placement is necessary to increase durability and reduce microleakage. Flowable resin liners have been introduced to improve adaptation in composite restorations. In addition, a device that lowers the viscosity of regular dental composites has been introduced (Calset, AdDent Inc, Danbury, CT, USA). This device lowers the viscosity of composites by preheating them to 54.4 degrees C, which should lead to improved adaptation. This study compared microleakage in Class II composite restorations prepared using: 1) preheated resin composite, 2) unhe

Treating internal resorption using a syringeable composite resin.

BACKGROUND: Internal resorption is a pathological process initiated within the pulp space with the loss of dentin. It often is described as an oval shaped enlargement of the root canal space and usually is asymptomatic and detectable by routine radiographs. Treatment of internal resorption has included several materials--gutta-percha, zinc oxide eugenol and amalgam alloy. These materials do not provide strength to the tooth structure. CASE DESCRIPTION: A 29-year-old woman was referred to a dental clinic for treatment of a large internal resorptive defect in the coronal and middle one-third of

Resin Infiltration with Flowable Resin Composite Sealing for Non-Cavitated Occlusal Caries: A Retrospective Cohort Study.

Non-cavitated occlusal pit-and-fissure carious lesions in permanent molars are common among children and adolescents; however, evidence remains limited on whether resin infiltration, combined with flowable resin composite pit-and-fissure sealing, provides superior short-term lesion control compared with sealing alone. This single-center retrospective cohort study included permanent molars with non-cavitated occlusal pit-and-fissure carious lesions, classified according to the International Caries Detection and Assessment System (ICDAS) codes 1-2, in patients aged 6-18 years. The affected tooth
