The aspiration of objects and foreign bodies requires quick and systematic care. During emergent orotracheal intubation, accidental dental c … ppears safe and effective. Careful creation, placement, maintenance, and preservation of prosthetic crowns are critically important in elderly patients.

Crowned dens syndrome is an under-recognized entity that can mimic neurological disease, in particular meningitis or giant-cell arteritis. We present a 48-year-old woman presenting with an inflammatory meningitis-like syndrome with headache and neck stiffness. Lumbar puncture was normal and computed tomography (CT) of the atlantoaxial joint showed abnormal calcifications around the odontoid process, leading to a tentative diagnosis of crowned dens syndrome. In addition, signs of active inflammation in and around the dens were present on cervical MR imaging. Since CDS can mimic meningitis or gi

Maintaining healthy parodontium during teeth restoration procedures is an indispensable condition for obtain- ing regular functionning and esthetics. Thus, the knowledge of correct anatomy and the influence of filling and complement on paradontium tissue is vital. Difficulty in maintaining appropriate gingival biological width (GBW) is a frequent problem encountered in this type of reconstruction. Preservation of unchanged biological width conditions predictible treatment result and, what is more, lack of inflammatory lesions in marginal parodontium. The ideal situation for parodontium is loca

INTRODUCTION: A major complication after endodontic treatment is persistent pain on biting or chewing. Although unsuccessful endodontic treatment can account for such pain, pain to chewing and biting can also be a result of an unsupported or propagated crown fracture. Crown fractures that extend apically result in deterioration of the localized periodontium and ultimate loss of the tooth. To date, no predictable treatment for apically extending crown fractures exists.
METHODS: Three cases of nonsurgical excision of a propagated crown fracture and the repair of the subsequent iatrogenic perfor

Crystal deposition in the cervical spine around the odontoid process may lead to acute neck pain. This rare condition is called crowned dens syndrome and should be considered in the differential diagnosis of a possible etiology for fever, headache and cervical pain of unknown origin. The syndrome is often overlooked, thus leading to misdiagnosis, invasive and useless investigations (lumbar puncture, biopsy), inappropriate treatment (steroids, antibiotics, antiviral drugs) and prolonged hospitalization. This can be prevented by imaging, based on a cervical CT scan that allows an accurate diagno

Periodontal surgical procedures consisting of gingival flaps and osseous recontouring are indicated for crown lengthening of several contiguous teeth in the esthetic zone; both in cases where restorations are required and in cases where no restorations are planned, such as in patients with excessive gingival display due to altered passive eruption. Forced tooth eruption via orthodontic extrusion is the technique of choice when clinical crown lengthening is necessary on isolated teeth in the esthetic zone.

This case report describes an unusual phenomenon where resorption occurred in the crown of an unerupted permanent molar. It was an incidental radiological finding. After eruption the tooth was extracted. Histological examination revealed resorption of enamel and dentine, and partial replacement by calcific material. The possible aetiology of the condition is discussed.

The targeted removal of dental hard tissues for the purposes of crown stump preparation may be designated as rational if the technique used ist atraumatic and implies the deliberate use of driving systems within different speed ranges and the utilization of adapted abrasive tools in a phase-synchronous and segment-oriented manner. Goal of the preparation is to realize a copy of the clinical crown that is reduced in size, presents less details and has a defined line of preparation.

It is recommended that a sharp-pointed object, such as a dental crown, in the proximal duodenum be retrieved endoscopically if this can be accomplished safely.

The classic symptoms of meningismus, including fever, neck stiffness, and headache, should automatically trigger a prime differential of meningitis, but a close masquerader, albeit rare, is crowned dens syndrome. Herein, we report the case of a 71-year-old woman with clinical features of meningismus with elevated inflammatory biomarkers. However, computed tomography of the cervical spine revealed the presence of calcium deposits encircling the dens. Hence, an alternate diagnosis of crowned dens syndrome was considered. This was confirmed by the presence of similar pathology in other joints and

Odontoplasty (floating and occlusal equilibration) is the most commonly performed procedure in equine dentistry. From an anatomic perspective, an irregular occlusal surface, prominent cingula, transverse ridges, and enamel points all contribute to the function, form, and longevity of the equine cheek tooth. With limited reserve crown available and an average functional life range between 18 and 25 years, removal of tooth structure should be conservative. The authors consider a quality oral examination to be the most important dental procedure performed in the horse. Individual tooth evaluation
