CONTEXT: Dancing has been used as a form of exercise to improve functional and metabolic outcomes during aging. The field lacks randomized, clinical trials (RCTs) evaluating metabolic outcomes related to dance interventions, but dancing may be a form of exercise that could induce positive effects on the metabolic health of older adults. However, primary studies seem very heterogonous regarding the trial designs, characteristics of the interventions, the methods for outcomes assessments, statistical powers, and methodological quality.
OBJECTIVE: The current research team intended to review the

INTRODUCTION: Parkinson's Disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder that affects motor and non-motor functions. Speech impairments, such as reduced variability in pitch (F0SD) and intensity (IntSD), are commonly observed. Early identification of these changes through voice biomarkers offers a noninvasive approach for detecting PD, tracking disease progression, and investigating the effects of interventions on this population. This study investigates the impact of dance on people with PD voice features over a five-year period and explores whether dance interventions can mitigate these impair

Dance or rhythmic movement-based training has demonstrated significant efficacy in addressing a range of motor and cognitive deficits associated with neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases. Leveraging both human and non-human animal behavioral and neurobiological evidence, I hypothesize a possible untapped role of dance training in mitigating impairments in the motor control of speech, a complex sensorimotor behavior affected in these conditions. Here, this hypothesis is supported by an in-depth examination of motor speech deficits in Parkinson's and Alzheimer's d

BACKGROUND: People with idiopathic Parkinson's disease (PD) frequently have low activity levels, poor mobility and reduced quality of life. Although increased physical activity may improve mobility, balance and wellbeing, adherence to exercises and activity programs over the longer term can be challenging, particularly for older people with progressive neurological conditions such as PD. Physical activities that are engaging and enjoyable, such as dancing, might enhance adherence over the long term. The objective of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of a randomized controlled trial of

Personality disorders (PD) are based not just on maladaptive ideas about self and others, they also are grounded on embodied patterns of behaviors and reactions to interpersonal stressors. There is growing interest in working with the body and through the body so to address automatisms that lead to suffering and dysfunctional social action. In this issue of the Journal of Clinical Psychology: In-Session the use of art and psychomotor therapies for these patients was explored by seven different clinical perspectives. Patients described presented with different PD and associated symptoms. The ar

BACKGROUND: Parkinson disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by motor symptoms. Recently, dance has started to be considered an effective intervention for people with PD. Several findings in the literature emphasize the necessity for deeper exploration into the synergistic impacts of dance therapy and exergaming for PD management. Moreover, socially engaging robotic platforms equipped with advanced interaction and perception features offer potential for monitoring patients' posture and enhancing workout routines with tailored cues.

Interpersonal trauma is a pervasive issue with devastating consequences for women and girls of diverse identities. Research has shown that there are many potential physiological consequences for experiencing trauma, and as such, treatment for trauma should incorporate the body. Dance/Movement Therapy (DMT) has been emerging in the current literature as one body-oriented treatment approach effective in helping women and girls heal from interpersonal trauma. This review uses textual narrative evidence synthesis to examine how practitioners are currently using DMT for this population, what treatm

BACKGROUND: As global population aging accelerates, maintaining physical function in older adults has emerged as a core public health challenge. Dance, a multimodal physical activity integrating cognitive challenges and social interaction, has been proven effective in improving health in older age. However, existing evidence is largely confined to validating efficacy, often plagued by selective outcome reporting, and lacks evidence-based consensus regarding optimal intervention protocols.
OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to (1) systematically evaluate the effects of dance interventions on physical
