Esthetic and functional rehabilitation for oligodontia in the mixed dentition: case report.

Tooth agenesis can be considered the most common anomaly of craniofacial development in humans, with an estimated prevalence reaching up to 20% worldwide. Treatments for tooth agenesis include orthodontic space closure, use of fixed or removable dentures, and placement of dental implants. Some of these options may not be applicable to children in mixed dentition because they can prevent the normal development of facial bones. A multidisciplinary, staged approach considering the number, size, and development of the remaining teeth in the long term would be the most suitable treatment. The purpo

[Tooth eruption in Jena children in the first phase of mixed dentition].

Based on the process of tooth eruption in children of Jena during the first period of erupting permanent teeth secular changes of the dentition were investigated and the topicality of the current tables for dental age were checked. Mean age of eruption was computed for the individual types of teeth and for each sex in Jena's children and curves for eruption were constructed. On this basis population-specific standards for the dental age were calculated and the children were subdivided into "late, normal or early teether". By comparing the methods for age estimation using the number of teeth or

Effect of clear aligners on distalization of maxillary first molars in mixed dentition and early permanent dentition: a retrospective study.

BACKGROUND: The differential impact of maxillary first molar distalization on the three-dimensional displacement of the maxillary second molars during crown formation (Nolla 4-6 stages) and root development (Nolla 7-8 stages) remains unclear. Furthermore, the influence of two stages on the three-dimensional displacement of the first molars and central incisors, as well as the actual distal displacement and displacement rate of the first molars requires further investigation. METHOD: 36 patients were equally divided into Nolla 4-6 stages group ( aged 8.50 ± 0.92 years) and Nolla 7-8 stages gro

Orthodontic treatment of deep bite in mixed dentition and/or early permanent dentition: What about stability? - A systematic review.

INTRODUCTION: Deepbite is a vertical malocclusion found alone or in association with other types of sagittal and transverse disorders. With a high relapse tendency, deepbite is considered one of the most challenging malocclusions to treat. It is commonly found in mixed dentition with increased prevalence of 21.3% compared to 14.1% in temporary dentition, thus resulting on unfavourable consequences, preventing the mandible from its full growth potential. Therefore, this systematic review aims to investigate the efficiency of conducting an early correction of deepbite malocclusion in mixed and e

Scoring system for assessing the symmetry of tooth development in mixed dentition.

BACKGROUND: Human teeth develop sequentially and symmetrically in both halves of the jaws. Disorders of tooth development and eruption can be local or generalized. The symmetry comparison of tooth development is an essential measuring point to assess dentition. The aim of this study was the development of an easy-to-apply score that represents the tooth development of one side of the jaw to carry out side-specific development comparisons. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The stages of development and the state of health of the teeth were determined on orthopantomograms of 59 healthy children and adolesc

Nutritional and non-nutritional habits and occurrence of malocclusions in the mixed dentition.

Malocclusions are changes in the development of craniofacial structures of high prevalence. Associated risk factors are diverse and nutritional and non-nutritional suction habits are the most reported. The aim of this study was to estimate the prevalence of malocclusions in the mixed dentition and to study possible association with practices of breastfeeding and suction habits among Brazilian schoolchildren. A cross-sectional study involving a sample of 664 6-year-old children and their families was carried out. Data collection was done through interviews with mothers in the homes and oral exa

Importance of orthodontic intervention of the Class III malocclusion in mixed dentition.

INTRODUCTION: Supervising the development of occlusion, managing problems during the transition from mixed to permanent dentition, as well as controlling environmental factors that contribute to establishing malocclusion, are important actions to achieve a Class I occlusion with facial balance. Among these problems, the malocclusions associated with dysfunctions such as mouth breathing or obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS), atypical swallowing and abnormal tongue position, open bites, crossbites and maxillomandibular discrepancies, and especially the Class III malocclusion can be listed.

Orthodontic movement of a dilacerated maxillary incisor in mixed dentition treatment.

Dilaceration is a dental deformity characterized by an angulation between crown and root causing non-eruption of the tooth. It generally occurs following trauma to the deciduous dentition the apices of which lie close to the permanent tooth buds. Surgical extraction used to be the first choice in treating the severely dilacerated teeth. In this case report, it is described how a dilacerated central incisor was successfully moved into alignment in a young patient with proper surgical and orthodontic management avoiding use of prosthetic/implant devices. The panoramic radiograph after the trauma

Oral management of a child with mixed dentition affected by amelogenesis imperfecta.

Amelogenesis Imperfecta (AI) is a hereditary developmental disorder affecting deposition, calcification or maturation of dental enamel in both the primary and permanent dentitions. Patients usually present tooth sensitivity as well as problems in chewing function and esthetics. In addition, dissatisfaction with the teeth appearance is often found, affecting the patient's social life. Oral rehabilitation of children with primary or mixed dentition is complex, since no definitive treatment can be done during periods of growth and until the end of eruption of the permanent dentition is accomplish
