[Body temperature and fever--body temperature regulation, indications and possibilities of fever reducing therapy. II. Indications and effects of fever-lowering procedures and fever-reducing drug therapy].

Fever should be treated according to the individual situation. Securing a sufficient fluid intake is the most important primary measure. The decrease of body temperature by physical means is efficient only in combination with drug therapy and presumes the control of blood circulation. Aminophenazon is the most efficient drug to lower fever. Metamizol should be prefered in children at risk for convulsive disorders. The combination of aminophenazon with phenothiazines can be recommended , prothazine is the drug of first choice in suitable cases a caudal treatment of fever with antiphlogistic dru

Impact of age and drug resistance on mortality in typhoid fever.

The risk factors for mortality were analysed in a consecutive group of 1158 children presenting to the Aga Khan University Medical Center, Karachi, with multidrug resistant typhoid fever that had been proved on culture. There were 19 deaths, representing an overall case fatality rate of 1.6%. Multidrug resistant typhoid was associated with a more severe clinical illness and higher rates of toxicity, hepatomegaly, hypotensive shock, and death. Irrespective of drug resistance status, typhoid fever was found to be a more severe illness in young infants with significantly higher rates of diarrhoea

The Identification of Potential Drugs for Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever: Network-Based Drug Reprofiling Study.

BACKGROUND: Dengue fever can progress to dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF), a more serious and occasionally fatal form of the disease. Indicators of serious disease arise about the time the fever begins to reduce (typically 3 to 7 days following symptom onset). There are currently no effective antivirals available. Drug repurposing is an emerging drug discovery process for rapidly developing effective DHF therapies. Through network pharmacology modeling, several US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved medications have already been researched for various viral outbreaks. OBJECTIVE: We aime

Risedronate-Induced Chronic Drug Fever in a Case of Parkinson's Disease.

We present an atypical case of risedronate-induced chronic fever in an 85-year-old woman with Parkinson's disease, with a dosage regimen of … they are administered risedronate and experience chronic fever of unknown cause, the possibility of drug fever may be considered. This study concludes that risedronate-induced chronic fever, as observed in our case, represents a rare phenomenon, and it may be necessary to reconsider treatment methods for osteoporosis.

Celecoxib-induced drug fever: A rare case report and literature review.

WHAT IS KNOWN AND OBJECTIVE: Drug fever is frequently misdiagnosed, especially during concurrent infection. Celecoxib causes various adverse effects; however, celecoxib-induced drug fever is rarely reported. CASE SUMMARY: A 32-year-old man presented with pyrexia after 17 days of celecoxib therapy, which was reintroduced following 3-day total drug cessation. His fever recurred after this unsuspected rechallenge, which aided in the ultimate identification of the offending drug. A Naranjo Score of 8 led us to infer that drug fever was "probably" caused by celecoxib. WHAT IS NEW AND CONCLUSION: …

The Implications of Extensive Drug-resistant Typhoid Fever: A Case Report.

Salmonella Typhi (S.Typhi) is the causative agent in typhoid fever. In Pakistan, an extensive drug-resistant (XDR) S.Typhi strain has emerged that is resistant to all recommended antibiotics, including third-generation cephalosporins. We report the case of a 29-year-old pregnant woman presenting with high-grade fever, lower abdominal pain, concerns of urinary burning, and increased urinary frequency lasting four days. Blood cultures confirmed XDR S. Typhi. This case highlights three important items: the emergence of the XDR typhoid strain in an unstudied community, the susceptibility of immuno

Treatment of ragweed hay fever with flurbiprofen, a cyclooxygenase-inhibiting drug.

Sixty-two volunteer hay fever patients participated in a 2-week trial which examined the protective effect of the cyclooxygenase-inhibiting drug flurbiprofen. The drug suppressed symptom severity significantly, though it was not as protective as the antihistamine also employed in the trial. Flurbiprofen's effects suggests that prostaglandin release may contribute to the symptoms of allergic rhinitis.

Fatal Complications of Extensive Drug-Resistant Typhoid Fever: A Case Report.

Typhoid fever is a systemic illness that often presents with fever, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. There are multiple complications associated with typhoid fever which includes intestinal perforation, gastrointestinal hemorrhage, hepatitis, and anemia. In recent years, a new extensively drug resistant (XDR) strain of Salmonella typhi (S. typhi) emerged, associated with higher incidence of complications, responding to azithromycin and carbapenems only. In this article, we report a case of a 28-year-old Pakistani male who initially presented with fever and bloody diarrhea, complicated by massive

Drug repositioning for dengue haemorrhagic fever by integrating multiple omics analyses.

To detect drug candidates for dengue haemorrhagic fever (DHF), we employed a computational drug repositioning method to perform an integrated multiple omics analysis based on transcriptomic, proteomic, and interactomic data. We identified 3,892 significant genes, 389 proteins, and 221 human proteins by transcriptomic analysis, proteomic analysis, and human-dengue virus protein-protein interactions, respectively. The drug candidates were selected using gene expression profiles for inverse drug-disease relationships compared with DHF patients and healthy controls as well as interactomic relation

A Retrospective Analysis of Drug Fever Diagnosed during Infectious Disease Consultation.

OBJECTIVE: To clarify the current situation concerning drug fever (DF) in Japan, we retrospectively analyzed patients undergoing infectious disease consultation at our institution. METHODS: Between April 2014 and May 2015, we extracted the records of DF patients from among 388 patients who had obtained infectious disease consultations in Kurume University Hospital. We reviewed their medical charts and summarized the characteristics of DF. RESULTS: This study included the records of 16 patients. Clinical signs (relative bradycardia, the duration of the drug administration before becoming febr…

[Drug-induced fever caused by hydroxyurea. Apropos of 3 new cases].

Drug-induced fever is a frequent (3-5% of all adverse effects) but under recognized adverse effect of several drugs. Hydroxyurea, an antimetabolite cytostatic agent, has rarely been involved in the occurrence of fever. We report three additional cases of hydroxyurea-induced fever including one case with pulmonary involvement (acute alveolitis). In these cases, the role of hydroxyurea was strongly suggested by the delay to onset of symptoms (16-36 days), the disappearance of fever within a few hours after drug withdrawal, the recurrence of fever shortly after rechallenge in two patients, and th

Drug fever due to nomifensine treatment in patients with endogenous depression.

Nomifensine was introduced as an effective antidepressant drug with few side effects. However, among our patients we have seen 2 typical cases of drug fever due to nomifensine. 2-4 weeks after start of nomifensine treatment, 75-150 mg/day, for recurrent endogenous depressions the patients developed shiverings and fever. Nomifensine was withdrawn and both became afebrile within 1 day. A provocation test with 50 mg nomifensine p.o. again resulted in shiverings and fever within 6-8 h. 1 of the patients was allergic to other drugs and suffered from asthma. During the acute episode of illness the s…
