Ebstein malformation is a rare disease that presents with a spectrum of severity. We use a management paradigm that breaks the anomaly into two groups: neonates and children/adults. This leads to a discussion of management and operative techniques as well as pitfalls. We hope the reader finds our streamlined and logical approach of benefit to this complex and rare disease.

Ebstein's anomaly is a complex congenital disorder of the tricuspid valve. Presentation in neonatal life and (early) childhood is common. Disease severity and clinical features vary widely and require a patient-tailored treatment. In this review, we describe the natural history of children and adolescents with Ebstein's anomaly, including symptoms and signs presenting at diagnosis. Current classification strategies of Ebstein's anomaly are discussed. We report on diagnostic methods for establishing the severity of disease that might enhance decision on the timing of surgical intervention. Furt

Ebstein's anomaly is a rare congenital cardiac disease initially described by Wilhelm Ebstein in 1866. It is defined as the significant apical displacement of the part of the tricuspid valve causing significant tricuspid regurgitation and reduction of the functional right ventricle, right atrial and right ventricular dilatation and atrial and ventricular arrhythmias. Ebstein's anomaly occurs approximately once in 20,000 live births and only 5% of patients survive beyond the fifth decade. We present a case of Ebstein's anomaly in a 69-year-old Italian woman. Also this case is illustrative of Eb

Ebstein's anomaly is a rare congenital heart disease abnormality in which the tricuspid valve leaflets do not attach normally to the tricuspid valve annulus. The effective tricuspid valve orifice is displaced apically into the right ventricle (RV), near the junction of the inlet and the trabecular parts of the RV. The authors present a retrospective study of the patients with Ebstein's anomaly admitted to a neonatal intensive care unit, in the period between January 1993 and March 2000. There were ten patients, representing 0.24% of total neonates and 1.99% of total congenital heart disease ad

A case of a 62-year-old patient with Ebstein's anomaly is presented. Despite the severe anatomical abnormalities, he was asymptomatic until 61 years of age. Anatomic aspects, clinical features and the diagnostic techniques used are analyzed.

The purpose of this study was to determine the most discriminating clinical and echocardiographic features that are most helpful in correctly identifying Ebstein's anomaly of the tricuspid valve from other causes of tricuspid regurgitation. Ebstein's anomaly is an uncommon malformation of the tricuspid valve with diagnostic echocardiographic features. Other cardiac disorders associated with tricuspid valve regurgitation and predominate right-sided heart chamber enlargement can be misdiagnosed as Ebstein's anomaly. All patients who were referred to our institution between 1982 and 1995 with the

The article deals with Ebstein's anomaly, lithium and their relationship. Some studies suggest that lithium might be involved as a teratogen increasing the incidence of Ebstein's anomaly in the offspring of female patients with manio-depressive psychosis and lithium-administered during pregnancy. The second part of the article contains data on the incidence of Ebstein's anomaly in the Czech Socialist Republic between 1960 and 1985. The results indicate a steady rise in the incidence of this congenital malformation over the above period of time.

Ebstein's disease is a congenital malformation of the tricuspid valve that causes various hemodynamic alterations depending on the anatomic changes in the valve, presence or absence of atrial septal defect and reduction in the ventricular function. We present 19 patients with Ebstein's malformation of the tricuspid valve younger than 2 years of age. The long-term follow-up was from 1 week to 16 years with a mean of 40 months. Eight children died, 6 were lost in the follow-up and 5 survived. Early cyanosis with associated lesions give a bad prognosis. If the child survives the first year of lif

2 adult siblings with Ebstein's anomaly are presented in this report. The second sibling was found to have the anomaly 20 years after the first sibling was diagnosed. The use of echocardiography in screening for Ebstein's anomaly and the diagnostic features are emphasized. Documentation by electrode catheter recording intracardiac electrocardiogram and pressures in the right heart were made.
