The reaction between myeloperoxidase (donor:hydrogen-peroxide oxidoreductase, EC 1.11.1.7), hydrogen peroxide and ethyl hydroperoxide was investigated using the stopped-flow technique. Like other peroxidases, myeloperoxidase forms two sequential peroxide compounds. The pH-dependence of the apparent second-order rate constant of compound I formation shows that there is an acid/base group on the enzyme with a pKa of 4.30 +/- 0.15, which - when protonated - prevents the reaction of the enzyme with peroxides. Melamine-formaldehyde (MF) is widely used in catalysis and flame-retardant materials. While ionic liquids (ILs) can regulate the molecular weight of melamine-formaldehyde prepolymer (pre-MF), their underlying mechanism remains unclear. The title compound, {(C(6)H(11)N(2))[CrCl(3)]}(n), was generated via mixing of the ionic liquid 1-ethyl-3-methyl-imidazolium chloride with CrCl(2) in ethanol. Crystals were obtained by a diffusion method. In the crystal structure, the anion forms one-dimensional chains of chloride-bridged Jahn-Teller distorted chromium(II) centers extending along the [100] direction. The imidazolium cations are positioned between these chains.
