Denosumab for treating periprosthetic osteolysis: a feasibility study.

OBJECTIVE: Wear-induced osteolysis is a leading cause of late failure in total hip arthroplasty (THA). Denosumab, a RANKL inhibitor, suppresses osteoclast activity and may slow osteolytic progression. This feasibility study aimed to assess the practicality of conducting a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial evaluating Denosumab's effect on periprosthetic osteolysis in asymptomatic THA patients. RESULTS: Twelve patients were enrolled; ten completed follow-up. No significant difference in lesion volume change was observed between groups (Denosumab: +1.53 cm³; Placebo: +0.49 cm³).

[Early feasibility studies in Europe: Challenges, perspectives, and expected impacts on the clinical evaluation of medical devices].

The European Regulation (EU) 2017/745 on medical devices (MDs) strengthened clinical evaluation requirements and made clinical investigations mandatory for high-risk devices. Among these, Early Feasibility Studies (EFS), as defined by ISO 14155:2020, are pre-market clinical investigations designed to collect preliminary data on a device's safety and performance before its final version. These studies are characterized by their iterative nature, allowing device modifications based on findings gathered during the study. The United States was the first to establish a specific regulatory framework…

Evaluating the Feasibility of Clinical Studies on Cleft Lip and Palate Patients Based on the Hospital Records.

BACKGROUND: Policy makers, researchers and health care professionals are faced daily with the challenge of how to prioritize their activities and actions in different areas of their responsibilities. In the field of health, their decisions are often influenced by the reality of population needs on the one hand and limited resources on the other. The correctness of decisions is completely dependent on the quality and accuracy of information from the target population. Patient registries, have for decades been an important source of data needed to evaluate clinical practice, evaluate health serv

Pilot and feasibility studies in stroke rehabilitation: reporting quality, progression to trials, and barriers: a scoping review.

INTRODUCTION: Pilot and feasibility studies are designed to determine whether a future trial is warranted. In stroke rehabilitation, such studies have been increasingly published over the years. To clarify how well these studies support future trials, we aimed to: (1) assess the quality of reporting of pilot and feasibility studies aimed to improve mobility (ie, walking) after stroke; (2) examine whether they progress to randomized controlled trials (RCTs); and (3) explore the barriers in following up on these studies. DESIGN: Scoping review. PARTICIPANTS: Adults (>18 years) after stroke. I…
