INTRODUCTION: Peripheral ossifying fibroma (POF) is a solitary gingival growth thought to arise from the gingiva, periosteum or the periodontal ligament. It is a slow-growing, benign, progressive lesion that is limited in size.
CASE DESCRIPTION: This article describes a case of ossifying fibroma of a peripheral variant that occurred in a 26-year-old female in the anterior region of the lower jaw and presented as a growth on the gingiva. Since it was difficult to diagnose clinically, a pathological evaluation was mandatory. Upon pathological confirmation of the diagnosis, the lesion was surgic…

Cementifying ossifying fibroma is a fibro-osseous lesion which produces cementum. Cementifying ossifying fibroma is a mesodermal, non-odontogenic tumor of ectopic multipotential periodontal membrane blast cells. Although, it is a benign bone tumor, it has an aggressive destructive behavior in patients under 20 years of age with high tendency for recurrence. Cementifying ossifying fibroma can be recognized microscopically by the presence of cementicles. This is a case of frontal sinus cementifying ossifying fibroma presenting with proptosis in a 39-year-old male.

Cementifying fibromas are rare fibro-osseous tumors that arise from the periodontal ligament. These tumors are usually small, asymptomatic lesions noted on routine dental radiography, but they can develop into aggressive, expansile masses. The authors report the case of a 12-year-old boy with a tumor involving the maxillary, ethmoid, and frontal sinuses that extended to the right orbit, causing proptosis and disfigurement of the right side of his face. Removal of the tumor with facial reconstruction resulted in significant improvement of vision, despite long-standing disc edema and tension on …

An unusual case of ameloblastic fibroma involving two supernumerary teeth in the anterior part of maxilla has been presented here. The radiographic picture mimics a dentigerous cyst where there is a gross migration of one of the involved super-numerary tooth. After the histopathological diagnosis, the lesion was treated with enucleation and curettage.

Aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) is a benign intraosseous lesion characterized by blood filled spaces of varying sizes associated with a fibroblastic stroma containing multinucleated giant cells, osteoid and woven bone. ABC can present either singly or in association with osseous neoplasms such as ossifying fibroma (OF), giant cell granuloma etc. Juvenile ossifying fibroma has two variants: psammomatoid JOF (PJOF) and trabecular JOF (TJOF). ABC formation in TJOF is very rare in pediatric patients with only three cases reported in literature till date to the best of our knowledge. We hereby report th…

Peripheral odontogenic fibroma (POdF) is a rare and benign mesenchymal odontogenic tumor that stands out as a distinctive entity. It is predominantly found in the gingiva and can present as a diagnostic challenging lesion due to its potential resem- blance to reactive oral lesions. The purpose of this report is to describe a case of a POdF in a 10-year-old child and highlight the importance of recognizing this lesion in the pediatric population. This report also explores the essential diagnostic differentials that clinicians should consider when examining a palpable soft tissue nodule with a f…

Cardiac fibromas are rare primary tumors that can cause significant morbidity and mortality. There has not been a large clinical case review since 1994. This study provides an updated analysis of clinical impact, thereby enhancing understanding, increasing awareness, and revealing important factors in the diagnosis and management of cardiac fibromas. A retrospective case series was conducted at a tertiary care institution by reviewing radiology, surgical and pathology archives (1964 to 2020). Cases were included if cardiac fibroma was diagnosed through imaging or pathology. Demographics, sympt…

A 9-year-old castrated male pitbull dog was presented for evaluation of a subconjunctival swelling of 10 days duration. On ophthalmic examination, a subcutaneous mass was identified at the right lateral canthus. An excisional biopsy was performed, and histopathological analysis confirmed a diagnosis of a subcutaneous fibroma. Eleven months after surgical excision, the dog had no evidence of recurrence. Fibroma should be included in the differential diagnosis of rapidly enlarging eyelid masses.

Periungual fibromas are benign nodules commonly found on acral digital areas that are commonly associated with tuberous sclerosis. They vary in size and are challenging to treat, with a high recurrence rate. We present a case of a patient with a periungual fibroma, which by virtue of its size, was of functional concern. The intraoperative findings and their implications on the clinical outcome, together with a literature review on other treatment modalities, are also presented.

Background and Importance. Chondromyxoid fibromas are rare tumors of cartilaginous origin typically found in long bones. They usually present during the second and third decades of life. In this case report, we describe the case of a 60-year-old male who presented with back pain and was later found to have a sacral mass. Further immunohistochemical analysis determined that the mass was a chondromyxoid fibroma. Clinical Presentation. A 60-year-old male presented with worsening lower back pain over the course of 2 years. Magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated a destructive mass centered at S4 w…

Central odontogenic fibroma (COF) is an uncommon tumor that accounts for 0.1% of all odontogenic tumors; it has been defined as a benign neoplasm of the jaw. Clinically, the lesion grows slowly and leads to cortical expansion. Radiologically, the most common finding is multilocular radiolucency. The lesions are associated with the crown of an unerupted molar, premolar, or incisor tooth and in some cases, with root resorption or displacement. Histologically, the lesion is characterized by mature collagen fibers and numerous fibroblasts. COF responds well to surgical enucleation with no tendency…

Tendon sheath fibromas are rare, benign soft tissue tumors that are predominantly found in the fingers, hands, and wrists of young adult men. This article describes a tendon sheath fibroma that developed in the thigh of a 70-year-old man, the only known tendon sheath fibroma to form in this location. Similar to tendon sheath fibromas that develop elsewhere, our patient's lesion presented as a painless, slow-growing soft tissue nodule. Physical examination revealed a firm, nontender mass with no other associated signs or symptoms. Although the imaging appearance of tendon sheath fibromas varies…

Intracortical chondromyxoid fibroma is an extremely rare benign neoplasm of cartilaginous origin that usually occurs as an eccentric lesion at the medullar metaphyseal region of long bones. We report the clinicoradiologic aspect of a new case located in the metaphyseal region of the upper tibia and discuss about the differential diagnosis.

Despite the fact that cemento-ossifying fibromas of the maxilla may be quite large and locally aggressive, en-bloc excision is achieved by gentle blunt dissection, with the whole tumour mass peeled out from the adjacent structures. Until recently different fibro-osseous tumours that contained cementum were classified together as "cementomas". In 1992 The World Health Organization adopted a new classification that included these fibromas as benign osseous tumours. While such tumours of the mandible are common, those of the maxilla are rare. They are growth products of periodontal membrane remna…
