PURPOSE: The authors had for aim to describe the characteristics of listeriosis encephalitis patients enrolled in a national study.
METHODS: Listeria monocytogenes was identified as the forth etiology of encephalitis, in a prospective study in France, in 2007. We analyzed 12 cases with confirmed listeriosis (seven with rhombencephalitis, five with encephalitis) and compared them with encephalitis of other etiologies and with listeriosis encephalitis, mandatorily notified during the same year.

INTRODUCTION: All cases of cysticercosis diagnosed in France are thought to be imported. Our case report concerns a 48-year-old man who has never left Europe, in whom we diagnosed subcutaneous cysticercosis.
CASE: Histologic examination of the subcutaneous nodule extracted from this patient's abdominal wall showed cysticercosis. He has never left Europe. Various imaging techniques showed no other localizations of this infection. Neither he nor any members of his family carried adult Taenia solium.

During the last decade, the organization of brachytherapy in France moved to 62 units in 173 radiotherapy centres in 2009. More than 7500 patients were treated in 2009, quite exclusively with curative intent, for 80% in public or associated hospitals. The techniques improved to high tech 3D dosimetry and optimization of the dose distribution. Brachytherapy, despite representing only 5% of the treatments by irradiation, is a reference treatment for several tumors.

A total of 5,758 tuberculosis cases were notified in France in 2008, giving a rate of nine cases per 100,000 inhabitants. The median age was 45 years and 59% of cases were male patients.
