OBJECTIVE: To investigate the efficacy of gastroscopic treatment in the treatment of membranous duodenal stenosis.

Gastroscopy is used world-wide and it is considered as a safe procedure. In a case study we describe an impaction of a gastroscope into the oesophagus. A gastroscopy in full narcosis was performed on a patient with a large size hiatal hernia. During the procedure the gastroscope recurved into the oesophagus. With the assistance of another gastroscope and fluoroscopic guidance the gastroscope was removed successfully. This complication may occur more often than described in literature.

INTRODUCTION: Oesophageal heterotopic gastric mucosa mostly presents in the upper part of the oesophagus. It is commonly under-diagnosed because of its localisation.
AIM: To expose the association between heterotopic gastric mucosa and endoscopic features of the upper gastrointestinal tract.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: A total of 1860 upper endoscopic examinations performed between January 2012 and July 2013 were analysed retrospectively. As a common clinical emergence, esophageal foreign body can lead to esophageal perforation followed by severe complications including aortic injury, mediastinal abscess and airway obstruction, leading to a high rate of mortality. OBJECTIVE: To investigate clinical aspects and a new operative method for resecting third branchial fistula.
METHODS: The clinical aspects of 4 patients with third branchial fistula were retrospectively analyzed. It is difficult to locate the inner orifice of fistula through neck path due to tiny diameter of inner orifice. The inner orifice could be found and closed effectively by inserting yellow zebra guidewire from sinus piriformis with gastroscope. The mucous membrane of sinus piriformis could not be damaged due to the soft pointed end of yellow zebra guidewire.

BACKGROUND: The study was undertaken to document the prevalence of Helicobacter pylori and endoscopic diagnoses in Rwandans presenting for gastroscopy.
METHODS: We studied an endoscopic database containing 961 consecutive gastroscopy patients at the University Teaching Hospital, Butare, over 12 months. Patient characteristics, endoscopic diagnoses and H. pylori status (by modified rapid urease testing) were analysed.
