The present report describes a 53-year-old non-obese man with adiposis dolorosa whose pain was dramatically relieved by the intravenous injection of lidocaine. The patient showed a paradoxical response of growth hormone to thyrotropin-releasing hormone. In addition, in-vitro studies on adipose tissue metabolism revealed the reduced glucose conversion to neutral glycerides in painful adipose tissue. These abnormalities may be related in some ways to the pathogenesis of this disorder.

PEGylated oil is a terminology used to describe cosmetic ingredients that are the etherification and esterification products of glycerides and fatty acids with ethylene oxide. The Cosmetic Ingredient Review Expert Panel (Panel) considered the safety of PEGylated oils, which function primarily as surfactants in cosmetic products. The Panel reviewed relevant animal and human data provided in this safety assessment and concluded that the 130 chemically related PEGylated oils were safe as cosmetic ingredients in the present practices of use and concentration when formulated to be nonirritating.

Toxic shock syndrome is a rare but potentially fatal toxin-mediated febrile illness. We report a case of toxic shock syndrome complicated by life-threatening organ dysfunction with high toxin-1 and staphylococcus enterotoxin type A levels that were successfully reduced by early introduction of plasma exchanges. The report shows the time course of the concentrations of anandamide and 2-arachidonyl glyceride and confirms that early introduction of plasma exchange can result in a rapid reduction of circulating toxins and mediators in the treatment of life-threatening multiple organ dysfunction.

In the present study the lipid and glycogen content of human testis in patients with unilateral varicocele is presented. Eight cases were taken for the present study. Testicular biopsy specimens taken from these patients were analyzed and the normal testis acted as control groups. There was marked increase in total lipids, ester cholesterol and glycerides in the testis of varicocele patients. Impact of hyperprolactinaemia, induced by daily injection of ovine prolactin (250 micrograms/kg body weight, ip for 30 days) on testicular lipids was studied in M. radiata. Wet weights of testis and accessory sex organs decreased in hyperprolactinaemic monkeys. The friction reduction mechanism of glycerol monooleate (GMO) was investigated under boundary lubrication with elevated temperature. Tribological performances were tested using reciprocating test rig by adding 5 wt.% GMO into Poly-alpha Olefin (PAO) base oil. Friction coefficient and wear were recorded during experiments.
